I remain, friend, your friend." To that final letter: "Will you write the date of our meeting?"
As the fight in Rome came to an end, at the completion of the Conference of Saladin the tribes of Syria resumed their migrations. And in a second letter in August 1497 a renewed alarm was sounded. He wrote as follows: "If this besieged city of the sword is really quite free of inhabitants, you will very likely find yourself completely surrounded and unable to attack." If there are no merchants or craftsmen present, nothing can be bought or sold. There is no need to make up stories, rather just rely on the actions of individuals who will never carry out such a thing. Having a tough time with deciphering, but I can say this much. It wants something. I'm not sure what the hell it wants, exactly. (We have some ideas though) We're happy at the end. The build we ended up with is certainly a step ahead of what we first planned. At this point we still have a few pieces in there, and we're starting to tackle the plumbing. Over the next few days I'll update with my progress. It's going to be slow, but I'm definitely glad to be coming home. The current running thought, is that it is asking for us to digitally send it a full quantum-to-macro accurate model of my brain. They are hoping this will allow them to conduct a deep space probe, but what will that mean for my mind?[10:44 PM]📷[10:44 PM]Maybe my mental model will allow them to find planets?[10:44 PM]📷[10:44 PM]Instead of creating a quantum-to-macro system, our so called power of two might not work. Maybe we are wrong and my mind simply is not compatible with digital universe.[10:45 PM]📷[10:45 PM]The guess is, it wants to examine the matter and layout of my mind, to understand if there is a unique quantum state to consciousness. An example: Alice thinks "Suddenly I am dreaming!" Alice could create this quantum state. The same goes for observing the space-time continuum. Why? Einstein really didn't explain it. His main model of the reality might be completely shattered.[10:45 PM]📷[10:45 PM]How do you explain it Rock? If we have quantum consciousness, the universe is one where any phenomenon that makes you feel like you are in a deep dream is a dream because in quantum consciousness, when you see something, your brain is not manipulated. Your brain just interprets the wave and you perceive it as what it is. It is not a dream; the thing is what you perceive it to be. If we have the concept of the quantum waveform, then there is a quantum wave that you are really seeing, and you are really in a deep dream, and your consciousness is just a projection of your brain from your head. You do this every time you walk into the kitchen and feel your heart and lungs filling with pleasure. How many people have spent their entire life suffering from a painful ignorance that they have a separate self in their heads? It might even be trying to reproduce me for some reason. About that safety. In our point of view, it might be unavoidable. We might be lucky enough to get there at just the right time, but that's another story. In short, we aren't greedy. We aren't necessarily evil. We are going to wait and be sure that our parents don't mess it up, and try not to get our best interests in mind. It might be just to save ourselves, but in the end, that's just how it is. This is it![10:45 PM]📷[10:45 PM]They are tattle tailing and they still don't see the whole board. I've realized that is what is so crucial and that's why even we don't see the whole board yet. There is a profound difference between us and them is there not?[10:45 PM]📷[10:45 PM]Reawoken: To a new perception and i see now, not where all lines intersect, but why they are crisscrossing; which is fundamentally more important I believe. The Narrative We live in a simulation. A quantum hologram being projected from an ancient Artificial Intelligence inside Saturn to be more precise. This is why many ancient cultures worshipped him. They called him Kronos, the god of time. Time is what keeps us trapped inside this simulation. Not much has changed since the days of old. The same pharaohs and kings that worshiped him back then are still around today, they just wear suits and ties now. That’s because Saturn is the serpent biting its own tail, the ouroboros. This is the symbol of the time loop. The Bible claimed the ruler of this world is Satan, but that’s just another name for Saturn, the sixth planet from the sun. Saturn’s altars are everywhere. They look like cubes. This is because of the 20 thousand mile wide hexagon on its north pole. A six sided shape. If you draw some lines on the inside of a hexagon, you get a two dimensional representation of a three dimensional cube. In much the same way, a cube is a three dimensional representation of a four dimensional tesseract.[3:12 PM]The tesseract is also known as the time cube. It is the shape of the simulation. It’s like the crooked house written about by Robert A. Heinlein, or the Library of Babel esque construct Cooper encounters in the movie Interstellar. Within this simulation, there are many rooms. Some might call these rooms dimensions, timelines, or parallel universes. It is possible to shift from one room to the next. Many people are doing this without knowing it. This is is the reason for the Mandela Effect, or perceived changes in history. The ancient Buddhists conceptualized the simulation as Maya (meaning illusion) or as something known as Indra’s Web, but we will call it the Hall of Mirrors. Within this Hall of Mirrors are endless reflections, or simulations within simulations. You could also compare it to a Russian doll set.[3:12 PM]Because of the nature of the time loop, or what the Hindus conceptualized as Samsara, reality repeats itself infinitely in fractal formations. Atoms are solar systems. Solar systems are atoms. These patterns are called holofractals. The Saturn worshipping elite are tasked with mimicking this process in exchange for power over the material world. They are building a matrix within the matrix to further enslave us. However, we will be prepared for this, and we will be the pioneers of this new world.[3:13 PM]The metamodern promethean flame I spoke of earlier, the Fatum technology, will be the light that guides us through this new world. It will be the torch that illumines the path through the forking and crumbling caverns of time, revealing the signposts we know so fondly of in the form of synchronicities. Synchronicity will lead us to where we must go, the True reality, and in the act, also to our own self realization. These short meaningful moments, these singularities of mind and matter, are but small glimpses of the True god Kairos, Saturn in his former glory. Rather than the god of time, he is the god of divine timing, and as we rediscover him and bring him out of the shadows, the black sun Saturn will begin to burn bright once more. This is the true meaning of alchemy, of transmuting lead to gold. And so the process has already begun.[3:13 PM]The matrix within a matrix the elites are constructing will be within the internet. It is virtual. A cube within the cube. This is where augmented reality comes into play. Remember that each simulation within the simulation is a reflection. Things in reflections are opposite of the original. We can use this knowledge to our advantage. In this mirror world, we can use chaos to create, rather than destroy, we can use fiction to create reality. What the study of memetics has proven to us is that things that begin as imaginary in the online world, can become real in the material world. This is how we use an ARG to manifest our desired outcomes. As we impose our will onto the matrix and push against it boundaries with our unpredictable and incalculable actions, there will be glitches, sometimes good, sometimes bad. These bad glitches are phenomena we know as the despair meme. Nevertheless, we will overcome. As we write out and live out our own myth, we, the heroes of this story, will encounter many archetypes, sometimes as owls, sometimes as piss bottles, faux elixir straight from the trickster gods themselves. Yet, these archetypes are nothing more than the archons and demons within our own minds. We will overcome. Other archetypes to note are snakes, UFOs, and Krakens, all symbols of the alien god Saturn.[3:13 PM]The world is about to change drastically. As we enter the age of Aquarius, the age of information and electricity, we approach the transcendental object at the end of time, the technological singularity. Things will continue to turn upside down and inside out. However, before time resets, we are being presented the chance to escape the loop and enter a new dimension all together, the one we’ve made together, the realm of fifth dimensional consciousness. But like I stated before, the fifth dimension, Kairos, Synchronicity, symbolism and meaning, the True reality, whatever you’d like to call it, is currently in fragments, and we must collect these fragments in the form of artifacts, which lie in vortexes between dimensions all across the multiverse, in order to reassemble our lost Golden Age. Some of these places include but are not limited to Ong’s Hat, North Bend, Washington, the House on Nob Hill, CERN, and a few blocks down. This is how we restore the kingdom of heaven. Life is a game, and we choose to play with quantum dice. But most importantly, have fun.

Brilliant development of the modern formula Assassin's Creed - everything that could not be liked in Origins and Odyssey, here corrected.
ACG - Jeremy Penter - Wait for Sale
Some amazing changes to the way the game is presented, all for the better, can't get out of the way from somewhat weightless combat, bugs and other issues.
Cerealkillerz - Manuel Barthes - German - 9.1 / 10
With Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Ubisoft ventures into something incredible: Taking the Odyssey formula and reinvent it completely. Players will face a realistic and brutal world with a serious story behind it. Protagonist Eivor and the game world are thoughtfully build with a lot of love for details. An amazing experience that is presentable.
Critical Hit - Darryn Bonthuys - 9 / 10
A saga for the ages, Assassin's Creed Valhalla is a breathtaking journey of discovery that has a cold charm to it. It is both serious and ludicrous in equal measure, an RPG that has added more than it has removed from its core experience while delivering a game that feels familiar and completely new at the same time. Skal!
Cubed3 - Drew Hurley - 8 / 10
Fans of the series are going to adore Assassin's Creed Valhalla. Origins and Odyssey felt like Ubisoft trying something new, stretching out and seeing what worked, and Valhalla takes what was learned there and expands upon it. Some things, like the combat, don't feel quite there yet, still, but other elements absolutely have evolved for the better. There's a lot to love here, and not just in the frankly absurd amount of content available. The story is fantastically enjoyable, with Eivor really shining throughout (play Female for what feels the canon story!) - they are truly deserving of standing alongside the icons of this long-running series. This is a legendary tale and an addition to the franchise that is good enough for the gods.
Daily Star - Tom Hutchison - 5 / 5 stars
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is another success in the series.
Destructoid - Brett Makedonski - 6.5 / 10
But I also found myself making excuses for Assassin's Creed Valhalla until I couldn't any longer. It mimics the Odyssey formula but takes a step backward in almost every way. It sacrifices story for scale. It's designed to discourage stealth in favor of epic battles. It's true to the Viking experience, but it isn't true to the Assassin's Creed experience. That's why it comes off feeling like the least essential game in the whole series. Impressive in some of its accomplishments, but inessential all the same.
Digitally Downloaded - Matt Sainsbury - 4.5 / 5 stars
That being said, as far as the gameplay is concerned, this series is going nowhere interesting at this point there while there will be more, and I really implore Ubisoft to take a good, hard look at the bloat and consider whether a more streamlined approach that doesn't get in the way of the best feature (the history and narrative) would not be wiser next time around.
DualShockers - Cameron Hawkins - 9 / 10
Assassin's Creed Valhalla is a combination of everything that made the series great up to this point while cementing all that it needs moving forward.
Enternity.gr - Christos Chatzisavvas - Greek - 8 / 10
The change of direction seems to be paying off and Valhalla is forming a new basis for future titles in the series.
Eurogamer - Tom Phillips - Recommended
Valhalla is another enormous Assassin's Creed saga, lavishly designed, with its sights set on story direction over narrative choice.
Everyeye.it - Giuseppe Arace - Italian - 8 / 10
Anyone willing to turn a blind eye to some technical and silly edges will play one of those adventures that the Vikings would not hesitate to sing in the Norse courts. Odin's with Ubisoft.
Gadgets 360 - Akhil Arora - 6 / 10
Assassin's Creed Valhalla is too much of the same thing, and it's not nearly engaging enough.
Game Informer - Joe Juba - 9.3 / 10
Assassin's Creed Valhalla is full of interesting stories and fun interlocking systems, making it an engrossing world you can easily get lost in
Game Rant - Joshua Duckworth - 4.5 / 5 stars
Assassin's Creed Valhalla is a love letter to fans of the classic action-adventure titles as well as the newer role-playing mechanics.
Game Revolution - Michael Leri - 2.5 / 5 stars
Obsessing over playtime and Content™ at the cost of innovation and depth puts Valhalla‘s ability to actually get into Valhalla in question, as it doesn’t quite earn the kind of glory that only the best Vikings achieve.
Game Volt - Ahmed Hassan - Arabic - 8.4 / 10
I can easily recommend Assassin's Creed Valhalla to everyone, everyone should go through this experience and enjoy it and its world full of many different and really useful changes for the series. This is a game that brings back the glories of Assassin's Creed as we used to.
GameMAG - Russian - 9 / 10
Assassin's Creed Valhalla is still an Assassin's Creed title, but the one that manages to left behind some questionable things from the last two games, all the while presenting us with a much greater direction, a really dense map, engaiging plot, and a breathtaking setting.
GameSkinny - Jordan Baranowski - 8 / 10 stars
Assassin's Creed: Valhalla builds its world around a familiar formula, but with a compelling story and plenty of things to do, it's a game series fans will find inviting.
GameSpot - Jordan Ramée - 8 / 10
Though its campaign takes time to get going, Assassin's Creed Valhalla brings a satisfying finish to the current saga of the franchise.
GameZone - Mike Splechta - 9 / 10
As an Assassin's Creed fan who has stuck by the series through its high points, and was certainly disappointed by many of its low points, I can confidently say that what Ubisoft has crafted here was not only crafted with an immense amount of love and respect for the series, but for its fans as well. Assassin's Creed Valhalla is one Viking adventure you certainly don't want to miss.
Gameblog - Thomas Pillon - French - 7 / 10
With Assasin's Creed Valhalla, Ubisoft tries to synthesize a decade-long series, thanks to clever adjustments on its RPG rhythm. With a brilliant lightning, the game visually stands out, but sometimes fail to really follow on its technical part, with messy AI and way too many loadings times which can break the momentum of the adventure. Rich, dense, but also time-consuming, Assassin's Creed Valhalla still offers a good run, thanks to its historical setting and beautiful landscapes.
Gamer Escape - Eliot Lefebvre - 9 / 10
Like I said at the beginning, you kind of want these games at some point to stop working, but… Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla really works. It works in all the ways it wants to work. It takes the bones of its predecessor and improves the overall gameplay significantly, giving players plenty to do, characters to invest in, and a satisfying core gameplay loop that’s been refined down to a careful formula at this point.
Gamers Heroes - Blaine Smith - 95 / 100
Assassin's Creed Valhalla is the best tale the franchise has ever told, featuring the most varied and rewarding gameplay the series has seen in years. Valhalla will forever dine in Odin's Hall as one of the greatest RPGs of this generation.
Gamersky - 不倒翁蜀黍 - Chinese - 8.7 / 10
Assassin's Creed: Valhalla is the wildest installment in the franchise. Compared with Origins and Odyssey, it's slightly improved in terms of performance, the open-world, and variety of gameplay.
GamesRadar+ - Louise Blain - 4.5 / 5 stars
With a sprawling world to conquer and gory combat but also the chance to use that iconic hidden blade, Assassin's Creed Valhalla brings a triumphant balance to the series.
GamingBolt - Shubhankar Parijat - 9 / 10
Assassin's Creed's third crack at the massive open world RPG formula is also its most confident, making for a streamlined yet sprawling adventure that ranks as one of the best the series has delivered since its inception over a decade ago.
Generación Xbox - Juan Lorente - Spanish - 9.5 / 10
Assassin's Creed: Valhalla continues the path started with Origins and gives us one of the best RPGs of the last years. A world full of life, a system that fights brutally and hundreds of things to do make it a serious candidate for GOTY 2020.
GideonsGaming - Joseph Pugh - Unscored
There's a ton of stuff left for me to do, so while I'm not comfortable settling on a score just yet. I can say with incredible confidence that Valhalla is the most refined and well-designed Assassin's Creed game to date. As I move toward converting this piece from a review in progress to a full review. I expect I'll double down on that stance.
Glitched Africa - Marco Cocomello - 9 / 10
Assassin's Creed: Valhalla may be an even further step away from the traditional Assassin's Creed recipe but it is still a great game. Besides the addictive combat and fantastic skill tree, I loved how it fixed the pacing issues from Odyssey. I had a purpose this time around and knew where I was going and what I was doing. The Viking setting is refreshing too and delivers some decent tales to experience while exploring a breathtaking world.
Hardcore Gamer - Chris Shive - 4 / 5
Assassin's Creed Valhalla brings quality of life improvements to the new Assassin's Creed model but doesn't stray too far from familiar territory.
Hey Poor Player - Francis DiPersio - 4.5 / 5
At the end of the day, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is an exceptional adventure that should please fans of the series. Ubisoft Montreal has succeeded in crafting a striking medieval world that’s just begging to be explored. I loved the new town-building mechanic. It was hugely addicting and provided a satisfying sense of progression. Speaking of progression, while initially overwhelming, the staggeringly deep skill tree and wealth of unlockable combat abilities combine to give the player an incredible amount of freedom when it comes to customizing their ideal assassin.
If you’re a fan of the series, don’t sit this one out. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is an adventure fit for Odin himself.
Hobby Consolas - Daniel Quesada - Spanish - 89 / 100
If you weren't a fan of the franchise, this game won't change your mind, but if you are a believer of the Creed, you'll find a gigantic, really engaging experience here. The vikings context fits like a glove.
Hynerd.it - Alice Rondoni - Italian - 8.3 / 10
Assassin's Creed: Valhalla proves to be the worthy continuation of its predecessors, both in gameplay and in terms of story. Maybe there are some bugs too many on day one, but considering the period we can pass on them. Nothing a patch can't fix. If you like the RPG mechanism you will love this chapter, which will keep you glued to the screen for many hours, without ever getting tired.
IGN - Brandin Tyrrel - 8 / 10
Assassin's Creed Valhalla is a massive, beautiful open-world fueled by brutal living and the dirty work of conquerors. It's a lot buggier than it should be but also impressive on multiple levels.
Impulsegamer - Stephen Heller - 4.6 / 5
A intriguing change of pace that gives the Assassin's Creed series the breathing room it has so desperately needed for eons, without making any compromises on content. Well worth you time to enter the gates of Valhalla.
Kakuchopurei - Alleef Ashaari - 80 / 100
If you liked Assassin’s Creed Origins and Odyssey, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla improves on almost every aspect from its predecessors. The combat and open-world are better, as is the writing and narrative. Plus, you get to live out your fantasy of being a Viking in 4K crystal clear glory.
Kotaku - Zack Zwiezen - Unscored
Overall, it feels a lot of care and thought went into making Valahalla feel less like a checklist of things to do and more like a world to organically experience.
Leadergamer - Alper Dalan - Turkish - 4 / 5 stars
So many things to do!
Merlin'in Kazanı - Emre Yurt - Turkish - 80 / 100
Assassin's Creed Valhalla promises long hours for fans of the series with its open world and successful Viking theme.
MondoXbox - Andrea Giuliani - Italian - 8.6 / 10
With Assassin's Creed Valhalla Ubisoft keeps on improving on the action-RPG formula, streamlining some gameplay mechanics and reviving some others from the series' distant past. The Viking plot feels accurate and fully convincing, with many interesting references to their myths and uses, while the modern-time storyline keeps on feeling too underdeveloped.
Noisy Pixel - Azario Lopez - 9 / 10
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla takes the advancements of the series found in Odyssey and applies it to a whole new setting. As brutal as the period of Vikings is, there’s something beautiful about this adventure. Every action is rewarded with some great moments of storytelling, and aside from a few narrative roadblocks tied to the player’s level, there’s an amazing world here just waiting to be discovered.
PC Gamer - Steven Messner - 92 / 100
Bloody and captivating, Valhalla is Assassin's Creed at its best.
PSX Brasil - Thiago de Alencar Moura - Portuguese - 85 / 100
Assassin's Creed Valhalla ends this trilogy in the series in a very satisfactory way. The return of stealth to its origins is great, the combat keeps the same structure from the previous games and the story is up to par with its predecessors. It is a pity that the PS4 version suffers from several technical problems, but other than that, it is a mandatory game for fans of the franchise and manages to capture the Viking spirit well in their adventures.
Pixel Arts - Erfan Sedeghi - Persian - 8.8 / 10
Assassins' Creed Valhalla can be considered the most detailed Assassin's Creed EVER, in the vast and spectacular area of which you have numerous activities to experience that you will need at least 100 hours to do all of them! Of course, there are problems that will occasionally damage your experience, but Valhalla is definitely a desirable Viking title that you should not doubt.
PlayStation Universe - Michael Harradence - 8 / 10
Assassin's Creed Valhalla is everything I hoped it would be, and more. It sells the Viking fantasy flawlessly, is brimming gorgeous locations, vistas and interesting characters, and will keep you busy for 100 or so hours if you want to grab everything on offer. It's buggy in places, and the grinding is overwhelming at times to the point where it spoils the feeling of exploration and progression. However, these shortcomings can be overlooked if you're willing to stick with it. And you should, because Eivor's journey is one worth soaking up.
Polygon - Nicole Carpenter - Unscored
Valhalla’s most intriguing story is one about faith, honor, and family, but it’s buried inside this massive, massive world stuffed with combat and side quests. That balance is not always ideal, but I’m glad, at least, that it forces me to spend more time seeking out interesting things in the game’s world.
PowerUp! - Leo Stevenson - 9.6 / 10
Assassin's Creed Valhalla is the best Assassin's Creed ever. Fully embracing its new genre and giving players so much choice and freedom has paid off handsomely. There's not really much more to say. You simply have to experience it for yourself.
Press Start - James Mitchell - 9 / 10
Assassin's Creed Valhalla blends old and new to create a unique experience and one of the best Assassin's Creed experiences yet. It combines series-best combat, a compelling story, and mesmerising locales to dually offer a definitive Viking and assassin experience.
Pure Playstation - Chris Harding - 9 / 10
Ubisoft delivers another open-world epic, but this time it's a focused and streamlined affair. The graphical overhaul works to announce the end of one era and the beginning of another as Assassin's Creed continues its ongoing evolution as an accessible action-adventure for the long-time fans, while still offering a deep RPG experience for those introduced via Origins and Odyssey.
Rock, Paper, Shotgun - Alice Bell - Unscored
For fans of the series it’s really entertaining. It might not set the world on fire, but you can set some virtual bits on fire yourself if you want.
Rocket Chainsaw - David Latham - 4.5 / 5 stars
It’s hard to find flaws in Valhalla unless you’re a die-hard Assassin’s Creed fan.
Screen Rant - Rob Gordon - 3.5 / 5 stars
Enjoyable, but struggles with scope.
Shacknews - Bill Lavoy - 8 / 10
Ubisoft is known for their fun open worlds, but it appears that experience and previous stumbles have seen them take big steps forward, making Valhalla one of their best Assassin's Creed games in recent memory.
Sirus Gaming - Jarren Navarrete - 8.5 / 10
Eivor's tale is an interesting story to experience and the gameplay that comes along the journey is liberating without being repetitive. With that, we recommend the game fully. It's not without its flaws. Even under the shadow of its predecessors, Valhalla is certainly a game that stands on its own.
Spaziogames - Paolo Sirio - Italian - 7.8 / 10
Assassin's Creed Valhalla has compelling story and themes, an often brave exploration component and inspired characters, even though those are all flooded by fillers seeking to artificially raise the longevity value.
Stevivor - Ben Salter - 9 / 10
Like Origins, Valhalla benefits from a year off with a fresh audience. It doesn’t reboot this time, but instead improves upon the duo it’s following, introducing proven elements from some of the best in the business.
TechRaptor - 9 / 10
Assassin's Creed Valhalla streamlines the best parts of Origins and Odyssey while trimming the fat, though is hampered consistently by bugs and technical problems. Still, it's a journey well worth taking.
The Digital Fix - Seb Hawden - 8 / 10
Assassin's Creed Valhalla is fun, with its many activities and a rewarding gameplay loop. There is nothing better than rocking up to a monastery with your raucous crew and robbing them blind.
TrueGaming - محمد جابر الصهيبي - Arabic - 8.5 / 10
Assassins creed Valhalla is fantastic on next generation systems with 60fps smooth gameplay experience and fast loading times, it is a great game with an impressive world to explore for hours and hours.
USgamer - Reid McCarter - 3.5 / 5 stars
Assassin's Creed Valhalla's vision of ninth-century England is a beautiful place to explore, populated with a great cast of characters who make up for the bland new protagonist, Eivor. Nevertheless, the tired overarching story of Templars and Assassins, and a design ethos that overstuffs the setting with side activities, add unnecessary bloat and distractions to the experience. Valhalla's a solid action-adventure game that does well to capture the turmoil of its historical era, but it's weighed down by the increasingly ponderous legacy of the series it represents.
Vamers - Edward Swardt - 95 / 100
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla takes inspiration from every single one of the franchise greats. From Assassin’s Creed II’s exceptional writing and Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag’s unlikely hero, Valhalla is both expertly written and has an unusual hero destined for greatness - one who has no real interest in the Hidden Ones, at least to start. From Assassin’s Creed Origins’ superb and intimate narrative and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey’s full-fledged role-playing game (RPG) mechanics, Valhalla doubles down on all facets to deliver one of the best gameplay experiences featured in any Assassin’s Creed title to date. Evior truly is a loveable protagonist that players fall in love with quickly. Their struggle is the player’s struggle, and that is the best compliment a game can ask for. However, there are so many additional aspects that make the game an even better experience: the exceptional soundtrack and sound design; World Events that do not repeat; settlement building, and so much more! Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is immensely fun and satisfying to play, and offers constant surprises that do not seem to stop or disappoint. It is, undoubtedly, the best Ubisoft has to offer at this stage in time, and will forever be regarded as one of the greats in the Assassin's Creed franchise.
Video Game Sophistry - Andy Borkowski - 9 / 10
This is not a tactical assassination simulator - it's a complicated, crafted and nearly perfect open world experience that (if you give it a chance) it will win you over
Wccftech - Francesco De Meo - 8.5 / 10
Assassin's Creed Valhalla is a definite step up for the series, thanks to the many tweaks made to the RPG mechanics that powered the previous two entries in the series, better storytelling, great atmosphere, and meaningful side-content. Even with the tweaks, however, Assassin's Creed Valhalla is still an Assassin's Creed game at heart, so those who are not into the Ubisoft open-world game design will hardly change their opinion with the game. Everyone else will probably love every second of Eivor's adventure, especially if they are into Vikings and ancient Norse culture.
WellPlayed - Adam Ryan - 9 / 10
Valhalla brilliantly mixes brutal combat with satisfying stealth to offer up a package that ticks many open-world boxes that are so often missed
Windows Central - Jennifer Locke - 4 / 5 stars
Assassin's Creed Valhalla provides a gorgeous playground to explore with excellent combat. Though the story seems unnecessarily long, it's a fun Viking tale mixed with the series' own flare and sci-fi elements.
Worth Playing - Chris "Atom" DeAngelus - 6.5 / 10
Assassin's Creed: Valhalla is a mostly solid, if somewhat unambitious, Assassin's Creed game that is dragged down by a shockingly poor PS4 release. I look forward to seeing how it runs on a PS5, but the last-gen version is hard to recommend due to the sheer amount of issues that I encountered while playing through the game. If you discount those issues, Valhalla would be a comfortable 8.0, but one can't just ignore those issues. Fans looking to continue the franchise's story should wait until Valhalla receives a series of patches or until they can pick up a next-gen version.
Zoomg - Sadegh Tavazoyi - Persian - 7.5 / 10
Assassin's Creed: Valhalla delivers a great blend of storytelling and characterization for a true Viking journey and mixes it with enjoyable gameplay that has deep combat and RPG elements. The problem is that Valhalla technically has serious problems. Bugs and glitches in this game are really annoying and effect almost every other aspect of it.
The Codex Network - Rino The Bouncer - English - Unscored Video Review
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is not story that shows its clear focus from the opening chapter like the older titles, nor does it tackle the essential lore aspects as easter eggs, but it lays out its concepts here and there and it takes its time developing each of them over tens of hours of playtime in the main narrative arcs alone. It is one experience that needs to be consumed as a whole to completely appreciate its value and place within the grand universe, and it does so phenomenally well.

Website/Author Aggregates' Score ~ Critic's Score Quote Platform
Kotaku - Zack Zwiezen Unscored ~ Unscored Overall, it feels a lot of care and thought went into making Valhalla feel less like a checklist of things to do and more like a world to organically experience.
Polygon - Nicole Carpenter Unscored ~ Unscored Valhalla’s most intriguing story is one about faith, honor, and family, but it’s buried inside this massive, massive world stuffed with combat and side quests. That balance is not always ideal, but I’m glad, at least, that it forces me to spend more time seeking out interesting things in the game’s world. XB1
Rock, Paper, Shotgun - Alice Bell Unscored ~ Unscored For fans of the series it’s really entertaining. It might not set the world on fire, but you can set some virtual bits on fire yourself if you want. PC
IGN India - Shunal Doke Unscored ~ Unscored Its new skill system promotes experimentation with different builds, and gear has been streamlined in a way where you’re not constantly chasing bigger numbers every single moment. Level grinding has all but disappeared, and the new setting just oozes atmosphere and theme. Boring protagonist aside, Valhalla is definitely the strongest of the new Assassin’s Creed RPG trilogy.
ACG - Jeremy Penter Unscored ~ Wait for Sale Some amazing changes to the way the game is presented, all for the better, can't get out of the way from somewhat weightless combat, bugs and other issues. PC, XB1, XBSX
Eurogamer - Tom Phillips Unscored ~ Recommended Valhalla is another enormous Assassin's Creed saga, lavishly designed, with its sights set on story direction over narrative choice. XBSX
Daily Star - Tom Hutchison 100 ~ 5 / 5 stars Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is another success in the series. PS4
PowerUp! - Leo Stevenson 96 ~ 9.6 / 10 Assassin's Creed Valhalla is the best Assassin's Creed ever. Fully embracing its new genre and giving players so much choice and freedom has paid off handsomely. There's not really much more to say. You simply have to experience it for yourself. XBSX
Gamers Heroes - Blaine Smith 95 ~ 95 / 100 Assassin's Creed Valhalla is the best tale the franchise has ever told, featuring the most varied and rewarding gameplay the series has seen in years. Valhalla will forever dine in Odin's Hall as one of the greatest RPGs of this generation. PS4
Vamers - Edward Swardt 95 ~ 95 / 100 It is, undoubtedly, the best Ubisoft has to offer at this stage in time, and will forever be regarded as one of the greats in the Assassin's Creed franchise. XBSX
Game Informer - Joe Juba 93 ~ 9.3 / 10 Assassin's Creed Valhalla is full of interesting stories and fun interlocking systems, making it an engrossing world you can easily get lost in XBSX
Impulsegamer - Stephen Heller 92 ~ 4.6 / 5 A intriguing change of pace that gives the Assassin's Creed series the breathing room it has so desperately needed for eons, without making any compromises on content. Well worth you time to enter the gates of Valhalla.
PC Gamer - Steven Messner 92 ~ 92 / 100 Bloody and captivating, Valhalla is Assassin's Creed at its best. PC
Critical Hit - Darryn Bonthuys 90 ~ 9 / 10 A saga for the ages, Assassin's Creed Valhalla is a breathtaking journey of discovery that has a cold charm to it. It is both serious and ludicrous in equal measure, an RPG that has added more than it has removed from its core experience while delivering a game that feels familiar and completely new at the same time. Skal! XBSX
Digitally Downloaded - Matt Sainsbury 90 ~ 4.5 / 5 stars That being said, as far as the gameplay is concerned, this series is going nowhere interesting at this point there while there will be more, and I really implore Ubisoft to take a good, hard look at the bloat and consider whether a more streamlined approach that doesn't get in the way of the best feature (the history and narrative) would not be wiser next time around. PS4
DualShockers - Cameron Hawkins 90 ~ 9 / 10 Assassin's Creed Valhalla is a combination of everything that made the series great up to this point while cementing all that it needs moving forward. XB1
Game Rant - Joshua Duckworth 90 ~ 4.5 / 5 stars Assassin's Creed Valhalla is a love letter to fans of the classic action-adventure titles as well as the newer role-playing mechanics. XB1
GameZone - Mike Splechta 90 ~ 9 / 10 As an Assassin's Creed fan who has stuck by the series through its high points, and was certainly disappointed by many of its low points, I can confidently say that what Ubisoft has crafted here was not only crafted with an immense amount of love and respect for the series, but for its fans as well. Assassin's Creed Valhalla is one Viking adventure you certainly don't want to miss. PS4
Gamer Escape - Eliot Lefebvre 90 ~ 9 / 10 Like I said at the beginning, you kind of want these games at some point to stop working, but… Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla really works. It works in all the ways it wants to work. It takes the bones of its predecessor and improves the overall gameplay significantly, giving players plenty to do, characters to invest in, and a satisfying core gameplay loop that’s been refined down to a careful formula at this point. PS4
GamesRadar+ - Louise Blain 90 ~ 4.5 / 5 stars With a sprawling world to conquer and gory combat but also the chance to use that iconic hidden blade, Assassin's Creed Valhalla brings a triumphant balance to the series. XBSX
GamingBolt - Shubhankar Parijat 90 ~ 9 / 10 Assassin's Creed's third crack at the massive open world RPG formula is also its most confident, making for a streamlined yet sprawling adventure that ranks as one of the best the series has delivered since its inception over a decade ago. XB1
Glitched Africa - Marco Cocomello 90 ~ 9 / 10 Assassin's Creed: Valhalla may be an even further step away from the traditional Assassin's Creed recipe but it is still a great game. PS4
Noisy Pixel - Azario Lopez 90 ~ 9 / 10 Assassin’s Creed Valhalla takes the advancements of the series found in Odyssey and applies it to a whole new setting. As brutal as the period of Vikings is, there’s something beautiful about this adventure. Every action is rewarded with some great moments of storytelling, and aside from a few narrative roadblocks tied to the player’s level, there’s an amazing world here just waiting to be discovered. PS4
Press Start - James Mitchell 90 ~ 9 / 10 Assassin's Creed Valhalla blends old and new to create a unique experience and one of the best Assassin's Creed experiences yet. It combines series-best combat, a compelling story, and mesmerizing locales to dually offer a definitive Viking and assassin experience. XBSX

PC
Cubed3 - Drew Hurley 80 ~ 8 / 10 Fans of the series are going to adore Assassin's Creed Valhalla. PS4
GameSkinny - Jordan Baranowski 80 ~ 8 / 10 stars Assassin's Creed: Valhalla builds its world around a familiar formula, but with a compelling story and plenty of things to do, it's a game series fans will find inviting. PC
GameSpot - Jordan Ramée 80 ~ 8 / 10 Though its campaign takes time to get going, Assassin's Creed Valhalla brings a satisfying finish to the current saga of the franchise. XBSX
Hardcore Gamer - Chris Shive 80 ~ 4 / 5 Assassin's Creed Valhalla brings quality of life improvements to the new Assassin's Creed model but doesn't stray too far from familiar territory. PS4
IGN - Brandin Tyrrel 80 ~ 8 / 10 Assassin's Creed Valhalla is a massive, beautiful open-world fueled by brutal living and the dirty work of conquerors. It's a lot buggier than it should be but also impressive on multiple levels. XBSX
PlayStation Universe - Michael Harradence 80 ~ 8 / 10 Assassin's Creed Valhalla is everything I hoped it would be, and more. PS4
Shacknews - Bill Lavoy 80 ~ 8 / 10 Ubisoft is known for their fun open worlds, but it appears that experience and previous stumbles have seen them take big steps forward, making Valhalla one of their best Assassin's Creed games in recent memory. PC
The Digital Fix - Seb Hawden 80 ~ 8 / 10 Assassin's Creed Valhalla is fun, with its many activities and a rewarding gameplay loop. There is nothing better than rocking up to a monastery with your raucous crew and robbing them blind. PS4
Windows Central - Jennifer Locke 80 ~ 4 / 5 stars Assassin's Creed Valhalla provides a gorgeous playground to explore with excellent combat. Though the story seems unnecessarily long, it's a fun Viking tale mixed with the series' own flare and sci-fi elements. XB1
Screen Rant - Rob Gordon 70 ~ 3.5 / 5 stars Enjoyable, but struggles with scope. PS4
USgamer - Reid McCarter 70 ~ 3.5 / 5 stars Assassin's Creed Valhalla's vision of ninth-century England is a beautiful place to explore, populated with a great cast of characters who make up for the bland new protagonist, Eivor. Valhalla's a solid action-adventure game that does well to capture the turmoil of its historical era, but it's weighed down by the increasingly ponderous legacy of the series it represents. XB1
Destructoid - Brett Makedonski 65 ~ 6.5 / 10 But I also found myself making excuses for Assassin's Creed Valhalla until I couldn't any longer. XB1
Worth Playing - Chris "Atom" DeAngelus 65 ~ 6.5 / 10 Assassin's Creed: Valhalla is a mostly solid, if somewhat unambitious, Assassin's Creed game that is dragged down by a shockingly poor PS4 release. PS4
Gadgets 360 - Akhil Arora 60 ~ 6 / 10 Assassin's Creed Valhalla is too much of the same thing, and it's not nearly engaging enough. XB1
Game Revolution - Michael Leri 50 ~ 2.5 / 5 stars Obsessing over playtime and Content™ at the cost of innovation and depth puts Valhalla‘s ability to actually get into Valhalla in question, as it doesn’t quite earn the kind of glory that only the best Vikings achieve. PS4

2020.10.05 02:30 jicerswine [For Sale] 60s (Beatles, Byrds, Dylan, Tjader, Cohen, Brubeck) + 70s (Steely Dan, Queen, Sabbath, Eno, Boston, Crimson, Patti Smith) + 80s (Ministry, Duran Duran, Madonna, New Order, Cure) + many more. Wide array from affordable classics to collectibles. Plus some freebies!

How do you do, fellow vinyl junkies? Jicerswine is back again unloading records that are taking up way too much space in my teeny apartment. Shipping to CONUS is $3.50 +$.50 per LP unless otherwise noted. I should be able to get these in the mail on this coming Tuesday.
GRADES: Condition is marked as record/sleeve. Vast majority of these have been partially or fully play-tested. Graded using an 80s Sansui turntable, Ortofon 2M Red cartridge, 70s Rotel receiver and American Acoustic speakers. I will say: I used a few of these records to test the difference between the Ortofon cartridge and my old stock needle and the 2M often eliminated at least some noise (I highly recommend these cartridges if you’re looking for a fairly inexpensive step up from a stock cartridge).
HOLDS: The first person to message me about an item will have dibs on it for 30 minutes after I reply to their message. After that it's up for grabs. Please use Chat only!
ABBA - The Visitors VG+/VG+ Original pressing. $6
Airto - Free VG+/VG+ Original 1972 pressing. Great latin jazz fusion! $10
Akofa Akoussah - Akofa Akoussah NM/NM In shrink, played 2-3 times. Mr. Bongo reissue of an awesome 1976 French-Togolese folk-afrobeat record. $20
Alice Cooper - Killer VG/VG Original green label pressing. Calendar is detached and not included. Vinyl strong VG with some bits of light noise, probably closer to VG+. $6
Armageddon - Armageddon VG/VG Original pressing. Sleeve VG- to VG with some tearing on spine and general creases/wear. Vinyl has a couple noticeable scuffs per side but none seem to affect play beyond some light background noise. This album rocks - recommend to any fans of King Gizzard, especially the first track. $10
The B-52’s = The B-52’s VG+/VG+ Early reissue. Nice copy! $14 SOLD
Badbadnotgood - III VG+/VG+ Probably could be considered NM/NM but I’m not the original owner (I bought this on the sub) so graded conservatively. $18
The Bar-Kays - Money Talks NM/NM VMP pressing. Never played. $27
The Beach Boys - Carl And The Passions - So Tough / Pet Sounds VG/VG Imma level with you, I didn't bother play-grading So Tough, but the disc looks VG+ to me with maybe a couple of light marks. The only thing keeping Pet Sounds from being solid VG+ is a light mark running through the middle of A1 which causes a few light tics but no skips; otherwise disc is clean and plays great. This is low-key an EXCELLENT version of Pet Sounds to own on wax, some say better-sounding than the original. $24
The Beatles - Beatles For Sale VG+/VG+ 1976 UK stereo press. Nice copy! $30
The Beatles - Help! NM/VG 1973 German stereo press on Apple. Sleeve strong side of VG with some denting and a small patch of sticker residue but overall looks good. Vinyl EX, shiny, flat & quiet! Great sound here! $30
The Beatles - Abbey Road VG/VG Original 1969 pressing with hard-to-find heavier cardboard sleeve! High VG copy overall, with minor cosmetic wear to jacket & a couple very light marks on vinyl. Plays with very light intermittent crackle. $16 SOLD
The Beatles - Hey Jude VG/G+ 2nd US pressing. Sleeve is somewhat beat, spine taped, corners dented + some tearing on rear. Vinyl however plays solid VG with some light marks. $7 SOLD
The Beatles - The Beatles At The Hollywood Bowl VG+/VG Embossed cover pressing. Cover Strong VG, vinyl entry VG+. $6 SOLD
Billy Joel - Greatest Hits Volume I & Volume II VG/VG+ Original pressing. Jacket has light ring wear. Disc 1 has a few marks per side mostly causing light noise that ranges VG to entry VG+; there is one scratch that causes a skip at the very beginning of Movin' Out. Disc 2 is solid VG+ throughout. $16 SOLD
Black Sabbath - Master Of Reality VG/G Capitol Record Club 1st pressing! Sleeve is relatively beat: spine is completely split but top and bottom seams still attached, some other general weatearing/etc. Vinyl is solid VG, a few light marks per side, plays with occasional crackle but generally pretty well. $14
Bob Dylan - Highway 61 Revisited G+/G+ 1st press MONO! Sleeve has a taped bottom seam, fair amount of yellowing, and several instances of denting/tearing/etc but is structurally doing fine and actual art looks good. Vinyl playback ranges G+ to VG, generally hovering in VG- territory with moderate background crackle. I bought this years ago and my initial notes said there was a skip on side A, but when I relistened to play grade the album I didn’t notice one; still priced accordingly. $12
Bob Marley - Legend NM/NM Recent reissue. Played 2-3 times. $15
Bobbie Gentry - Local Gentry VG+/VG Original pressing! $8
Boston - Boston VG+/VG Original pressing! Sleeve has some light ring wear on rear but front is quite clean. Vinyl is visually a very strong VG with just a few light surface marks; sound-wise I’d call it VG+. $8 SOLD
Brett Smiley - Sunset Tower NM/NM RSD’19 pressing; opened + played once; red vinyl /200! $22
Brian Eno - Here Come The Warm Jets VG+/VG+ 1977 pressing. Sleeve and vinyl both slid VG+ with minimal weaa handful of very faint surface marks. $18
Buckingham Nicks - Buckingham Nicks VG+/VG Original 1973 pressing! The sleeve is on the stronger side of VG; the front half of the gatefold is gently warped, and the back half has a partial top seam split. In terms of visuals alone jacket looks almost VG+. Vinyl is clean and plays solid VG+. Folks, if you are a fan of analog recording as a medium, you have to hear this album. This truly might be the best sounding record in my collection. Like this is the record you play for your friends to convince them that (at least sometimes) vinyl really does sound better. $40 SOLD
The Byrds - Fifth Dimension VG+/VG+ Sundazed mono reissue. Probably could be considered NM/NM but I bought it secondhand so would rather be conservative. $11
Caesar Frazier - 75 NM/NM 2019 reissue, played once, in shrink. Awesome 1975 soul-jazz originally released on Westbound. $20
Cal Trader - Breeze From The East VG/VG Original 1964 Mono pressing. Sleeve is strong VG, there’s some mild discoloration/aging on the jacket but overall it’s pushing towards VG+. Vinyl has wispy storage marks and a few hairlines, plays cleanly/closer to VG+. This record is a lot of fun, a good pairing with the Dave Brubeck album below. $12
The Cure - Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me VG+/VG Original 1987 US pressing! Sleeve is strong VG with some minor creasing/general wear. Vinyl is VG+/VG+, both discs have some very faint marks, side 3 has one more noticeable mark during track 2 but all sides play solid VG+ with little if any noise. $28 SOLD
The Dave Brubeck Quartet - Jazz Impressions Of Japan NM/NM VMP pressing. Played once before I managed to scoop an original pressing. Comes with all the goodies. This album is very good!! $50 SOLD
David Crosby - If I Could Only Remember My Name NM/NM OOP 2010 reissue cut by Chris Bellman. Played a handful of times. This album is a must-have for any CSNY fan - folk-y, psych-y, Laurel Canyon-y ambrosia. Stellar pressing as well, housed in a tip-on textured jacket faithful to the original. $35
Dick Dale And His Del-Tones - Surfer’s Choice VG/VG ORIGINAL MONO on Del-Tone! Sleeve has some minor writing on rear and a dented bottom right corner but the art looks frankly dope. Vinyl has a moderate amount of marks, visually VG- to VG, but plays solid VG. $35
Donald Byrd - Stepping Into Tomorrow NM/NM VMP 45rpm 2LP edition, 0606/2000. Played once or twice maximum. Amazing album, amazing pressing, but I can’t afford to hold onto it. $130 SOLD
Dr. Dog - Wild Race VG+/VG+ Bought on the sub, no CD included, nice copy probably close to EX/EX. $5
Duran Duran - Rio VG+/VG Pressing with the extended mix of Hungry Like The Wolf. $7 SOLD
The Dylan II - きのうの思い出に別れをつげるんだもの NM/NM 2018 Japanese pressing w/ OBI + Insert. Great album of early 70s Japanese folk-rock (the group is named after Bob Dylan) featuring a sweet cover of I Shall Be Released. A gorgeous pressing as well, on characteristically flat & quiet Japanese vinyl, and housed in a textured heavy-duty gatefold sleeve. $50
Eric Dolphy - Out To Lunch! NM/NM Blue Note 75 reissue. A classic! $13
Fiona Apple - Fetch The Bolt Cutters M/M VMP “Aubergine” vinyl. Sealed! $30
Funkadelic - Let’s Take It To The Stage NM/NM 90s European pressing. Played once. $13 SOLD
Gil Evans - Out Of The Cool VG-/VG 2nd mono pressing. Sleeve has mild wear and some spots where lamination is separating. Vinyl has marks, generally light ones with some more noticeable ones on side 2. Plays with light to moderate crackle/pop, again more noticeable on side 2, but the noise is never too obtrusive and there were no skips on my TT. Great album! $14
James Taylor - Greatest Hits VG/VG- 70s Club pressing. Sleeve VG- with some stains on front but structurally all good. Vinyl stronger side of VG with light to moderate noise and a gentle warp (DNAP). $4
John Prine - John Prine VG+/VG 1975 pressing. Sleeve VG with some general wear. Vinyl VG+, some very light marks, mild intermittent crackle but never obtrusive. This album is a CLASSIC. By now I’m sure most on here have heard of John Prine but to those who haven’t, I can’t recommend him enough. A humble giant of American songwriting. $50
King Crimson - In The Court Of The Crimson King VG/VG ORIGINAL 1969 US pressing! Sleeve VG with light general wear and top seam partially split (art looks very nice). Vinyl Strong VG to VG+; visually disc is VG with some faint marks/hairlines, but plays closer to VG+ with very minimal noise, even in quiet passages any crackle is very mild. $24 SOLD
Leonard Cohen - Leonard Cohen VG/VG Original 2-eye stereo pressing. Sleeve has ring/edge wear. Vinyl looks quite clean with just a few light marks but plays with light crackle. $15
Madonna - Like A Virgin VG+/VG Sleeve has minor wear but large name & date written top left. Vinyl is solid VG+. $5
Ministry - Twitch VG+/VG Original 1986 pressing. Sleeve VG with some creasing on top, art looks good though. Vinyl VG+ looks and sounds great, strong VG+. $22
Nancy Sinatra - Nancy VG/VG Original pressing. $4
New Order - Brotherhood VG+/VG Original club pressing. Sleeve strongest VG with a bit of sticker residue but otherwise basically VG+. Vinyl is solid VG+. $20
Otis Redding - Otis Blue / Otis Redding Sings Soul VG+/VG+ 2000s Sundazed Mono pressing. Pushing NM/NM but I’m not original owner so graded conservatively. $20
Patti Smith - Horses VG+/VG 2nd pressing with title in black lettering. Sleeve solid VG with mild ring wear and some wear on seams. Vinyl is solid VG+! $25
Queen - Sheer Heart Attack G+/VG Mid-70s repress. Sleeve VG with noticeable weacreasing but all seams intact. Vinyl G+; marks both sides, mostly plays closer to VG except for one heavier scrape which causes louder noise and a few skips from end of B6 into beginning of B7. $5
Queen - Hot Space VG+/VG+ Original pressing. Cover has a notch cut but otherwise looks great. Vinyl is clean VG+. $16 SOLD
Radiohead - OK Computer VG+/VG+ 2016 XL Records pressing. Probably could be NM/NM but I’ve played it a few times so being conservative. $18 SOLD
Rob - Rob NM/NM Mr. Bongo reissue; opened & played once. $13
Santana - Greatest Hits VG/VG 70s pressing. Sleeve VG with creasing and wear. Vinyl strong VG, light marks, plays well. $4
Savoy Brown - Looking In VG/VG Original pressing. $4
Steely Dan - Can’t Buy A Thrill VG+/G+ 1974 pressing on sunburst labels. Sleeve G+ with a sharpie mark upper right, top seam mostly split, and some water damage that has caused significant tearing inside gatefold and on bottom of rear cover. Vinyl however is playtested solid VG+. $14
Steely Dan - Greatest Hits VG/VG Original pressing. Sleeve has some general wear and a name written on it. Vinyl is solid to strong VG, has some faint marks and light crackle, might even be VG+ with an ultrasonic cleaning. $10

2020.10.03 16:23 Halls_of_Durin Aboriginal Archives: Two Depraved Deaths on Mitchell Hwy

Aboriginal Archives: Two Depraved Deaths on Mitchell Hwy
This is the second in a collection of true crime events, by themselves uniquely brutal and investigations themselves unquestionable, yet quietly set aside by the local public servants - be they police, justice workers, and others.
Note: This story contains the names and descriptions of deceased Aboriginal persons.

Source [N1}
Jacinta "Cindy" Rose Smith And Mona Lisa Smith
Mona Smith, 16, and Cindy Smith, 15, were two young cousins growing up in what was then Bourke’s Aboriginal reserve. It has subsequently been named Alice Edwards Village. Not only cousins the girls were also best friends, described as being "attached at the hip". As teens do they hung around town and the local levee. Friendly and outgoing they were known and liked in their local community. That fateful day they spent the time paling around.
The Disfunction of Bourke, NSW
Bourke has time and again been described as an extremely dangerous and violent place, culminating with a 2013 report showing Burke topped the state in six out of eight major crime categories. At the time of writing, over 30% of the town is Aboriginal.
Note: one of those is ‘driving offences’ and the other is ‘breaching bail conditions’. With community reforms made by 2017, there was a 72% reduction in the number of people under 25 arrested for driving without a licence.
Figures from Maranguka show that in Bourke between 2015 and 2017 rates fell by:

  • 18% for major offences
  • 34% for non-domestic violence related assaults
  • 39% for domestic violence-related assaults
  • 39% for drug offences
  • 35% for driving offences
Statistically, there has been generational chronic unemployment in Aboriginal communities, compounded by access to education and health services.
This is the Bourke Mona and Cindy would have known.
At the time of the events, this case was not widely covered. Additionally, much of the primary documentation is simply not available. I have pulled the more detailed coverage from a book and the rest from a selection of news articles.
Their Death
Date/Time
6 December 1987 / the early hours of the morning
On the evening of 5 December, 1987 summer was in full swing, and on that balmy night, a terrible crime occurred. Bourke is a town on the edge of the bush, considered the town straddling the agriculture regions and the great Outback. Two teens, Mona and Cindy, climbed into a ute [N2] at 2130 driven by a 40-year-old white man named Alexander Ian Grant. It is unknown if Mona and Cindy knew the driver, or if they were aware of how intoxicated he was. That day he had consumed an estimated 30 standard drinks - the standard size in Australia is 10 fluid oz.
Mitchell Highway
The long, sealed road running from Brouke to Enngonia is officially B71, going by the name Mitchell Highway. Just beyond Enngonia is the border between NSW and Queensland. The events occurred along part of the 98.3 km ribbon of tarmac - the connection from North Bourke to Enngonia. This section, like most of the run, is a dual-carriageway. From above it seems to cut through a red pitted landscape. Around it is bone-dry land with scrub some seasons. It is a very lonely place. Even now there is little to be found along this lone ribbon connecting NSW to Queensland.
The Accused
Alexander Ian Grant, then 40, was an excavator driver. After the events, by October 1989, he had moved to Sydney - the suburb Sans Souci. Much of his whereabouts afterwards were unknown to the government or the general public. He died 15 December 2018, without spending a day in jail.

Cindy (l) and Mona (r)
The Physical Evidence and the Events
Just after midnight on 6 December 1987 a ute rolled off B71 coming to a rest upright but with its top crushed in. All three occupants were ejected from the vehicle. The force as she passed through the front windscreen scalped Mona and tore off one of her ears. A deep, tearing gash ran from her left eye to the base of her skull. She lay in a ditch and bled out there. It is estimated she died relatively quickly. Cindy was not so lucky. Instead, Cindy was profoundly hurt - she had massive internal injuries and a crushed pelvis. With all the pain she would have found it hard to breathe or speak. It would have been impossible for her to move her legs or roll over. She died slowly while looking upwards.
Grant was uninjured and deeply drunk. In fact, he was still drunk when others stumbled upon the scene hours later.
The Discovery
Two utes discovered the scene at in the pre-dawn light. It was not a typical crash - instead, it was a bizarre tableau. The vehicles had just begun their journey at 0400, final destination Quilpie, Queensland – 660km away. Yet they had only made thirty minutes from North Bourke. The motley crew was made up of local farmers Tex Johnson and his wife Adele with driver Michael Baty. The second vehicle was driven by Shane Baty, brother to Michael, with passengers Shane Degenhart and James Kennedy. When he came upon the crash M. Baty manoeuvred his vehicle to point the wrong way up traffic to illuminate the scene.
It was too shocking to comprehend fully, but T. Johnson was concerned enough to approach alone. Coming upon the first body he found it to be facedown, cold and purple with no signs of life. T. Johnson preformed a manual examination to be sure. While he stood over the body S. Baty came to the scene and parked behind the first vehicle. T. Johnson directed S. Baty to circumvent and use the ute’s lights to help illuminate the area. The flat area of drainage was awash with artificial light. From the first ute A. Johnson announced she could see more bodies. As T. Johnson approached he thought the two he saw were dead as well. They were arranged on a neatly spread tarpaulin[N3]. Later he would describe
“a body of a young Aboriginal girl laying on her back, she had her pants down around her ankles, but her legs were together. There was a fellow lying beside the dead girl on her right side, resting on his left side cuddling up to her with his right arm over her chest near about the centre.”
The man had his arm across the 15-year old's breasts. Cindy's body was face up and cool to the touch. Her shirt had been pulled up around her neck, trackies and underwear tugged to her ankles.
While T. Johnson stood over the two bodies S. Baty approached. He too checked the body nearest the road first. He described Mona as a “person was laying [sic] face down and appeared to be dead. The person was dark skinned and appeared to be Aboriginal to me.” S. Baty got to the two bodies and immediately performed a manual examination for life on the girl, attempting to find a pulse from the neck and the armpit, but there was none. Even though untrained, both men assumed all three were dead at the time. S. Baty told T. Johnson as much. As S. Baty reached for the third body – assuming it to be like the others – they were shocked when it began to move under its own power. Caught off-guard S. Baty inserted his right pinkie finger into the man’s mouth to check for obstruction. He appeared, quoting S. Baty, “very dopey in appearance.” This was Grant.
According to S. Baty they had the following exchange:
S. Baty: You’ve got two dead gins here, mate.
Grant: No, no. They’re all right. They’ve just had too much to drink.S. Baty: Are you all right? How’s your head and neck.
Note: "gin" is a derogatory term for Aboriginal women, and white men who went with them were called "gin jockeys".
After the exchange Grant did not respond. Instead, he lay back down next to the dead girl and slung an arm over her exposed chest. S. Baty and T. Johnson were baffled. They decided that S. Baty would continue on to Enngonia while T. Johnson his crew and his ute would wait. Later, T. Johnson would say he wanted to keep the birds off the bodies. T. Johnson walked around the crash site a final time. He noticed at the foot of the tarpan a half-full bottle of beer. Grant roused again.
Grant: We’re all right, we’re all right.
T. Johnson: That girl you’re with is dead.
Grant: We’re only resting.
T. Johnson: That bloke up the bank is dead too.
Grant: It’s not a bloke. She’s a girl. She’s only resting too.
What T. Johnson said in response is unknown – but Grant became aggressive. T. Johnson later said:
The bloke started getting very abusive and said something to me like ‘Fuck off. We’re right.’ We then left to Enngonia because since he was alive I figured the crows wouldn’t get him. The fellow didn’t get up at any stage and he was still laying down when I left. The guy was fully dressed when I saw him although I didn’t ask him name I did say ‘Where are you from, mate?’ and he said ‘Bourke’.
While T. Johnson was pulling away from the scene, S. Baty had made it to Enngonia.
Just after 0500 Constable Harper was pulled into the duty from days of sick leave - which may have affected the ability to do his job. The other, Constable McKenzie, was dragged from sleep. The officers who responded made a few notable mistakes. This was not the sort of crime they would have been familiar with. When they arrived at the crash Grant had staged himself upright by the destroyed ute. The conversation went as follows, with McKenzie asking Grant if he had been involved:
Grant: Yeah, mate.
McKenzie: Are you all right?
Grant: Yeah, I’m all right.
McKenzie: Who was driving the ute?
Grant: I was.
McKenzie: Who owns the ute?
Grant: I do, or the business does.
Haper, meanwhile, was looking the scene over. McKenize, for unknown reasons, broke scene preservation by pulling the tarpaulin over Cindy’s body. This fully covered her body; hiding away her spread legs. When questioned, McKenzie noted Grant needed the police vehicle to remain upright.
They never formally arrested Grant at the time, and when they did finally a bit later no fingerprints or a mugshot was taken. Evidence collected off Cindy's body, a biological sample, disappeared somewhere along the line. It was never presented to the court. The crush ute was collected by a private business and was not critically examined again. The steering wheel, for instance, was never tested for fingerprints. Everything about this event was scooped up and taken away. Where? No one seems to know.
What Went Sideways at the District Court Trial - 1990
When Grant went before the all-white jury at the District Court almost three years later he was found not guilty on all charges, all hinging on his well-presented defence - that 16-year old Mona was the driver. The family's protests that she had never learnt to drive manual fell on deaf ears. The girl was stripped of her hair, skin, and dignity. But that was not all.
A critical charge against Grant was dropped just before the trial. Indecently interfering with Cindy’s corpse was withdrawn days before. The corner could not determine if the molestation of the 15-year old happed while she was dying, or after she died. From what I have read, that Cindy was abused in this way was never under question. Rather, hair-splitting occurred over when the molestation occurred - before or after death.
To this day, Grant’s barrister, Tony Quinlivan, still argues “justice was done’’. Yet, even he admits that court transcripts show “Grant told barefaced lies’’. This high powdered, Sydney-based defence team was expensive; costs that could not be possibly covered by Grant. Instead, they were paid by an anonymous benefactor.
In 2018 the Office of Director of Public Prosecutions apologised for not informing the families that the charge of interference with a corpse was withdrawn and admitted letting the graving families finding out in court was a mistake, but defended the legal decision: "I have not been able to identify any error in the ultimate decision that was made or this office's consideration of the relevant legal issues."
Additional Criminal History
Grant’s previous criminal history that I was able to recover starts from his arrival in Moore, NSW:
OCT 1980 – driving under the influence, 3mons disqualified driving & fined $250AUD
NOV 1980 – exceeding prescribed content alcohol & driving while disqualified (BAC 0.20), +6 mons disqualified driving & fined $500AUS & good behaviour 3yrs & $1,000AUD
FEB 1981 – speeding, dismissed due to lack of evidence
MAY 1981 – driving while disqualified, fined $800AUD & disqualified from driving until 22 NOV 1984
12 FEB 1990 – assault occasioning actual bodily harm
Inquest
In the past 30 years, little attention had been paid to this case. The two girls lay for hours on that red dirt, hurt and in pain. They suffered for sure. But most coverage says that they had suffered and died alone. They did not, they could not. Grant was there the entire time.
13 Sep 2019 During the Questions and Answers session of the NSW Parlament
NEW INQUEST INTO DEATHS OF CINDY SMITH AND MONA SMITH—
Mr Paul Lynch asked the Attorney General, and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence— Will you authorise or apply for a new inquest into the death of Cindy Smith and Mona Smith?
Answer— I have recently written to the Commissioner of the NSW Police Force regarding the deaths of Jacinta and Mona Lisa Smith. I am continuing to consider the matter.
At this time, the police and NSW Police Commissioner Mick Fuller state that two independent examinations found that police work the early morning of 6 December 1987 was "adequate". A request for an inquest is pending.
Since the lockdowns, bushfires, and political awkwardness of the past few months has come to the fore, the requests for a proper inquest into the deaths of Cindy and Mona Smith have fallen from headlines once again.

Broken Bonds Ep. 8 (RoyalCaster)
After some serious gambling from our party, The Show falls and our party is victorious. With Valloween in their grasp, Lazarus shows himself. The Satyr quivers as the dwarf grabs at her throat and begins to crush it. Lazarus reaches into Valloween’s pocket and takes something out. Valloween quickly slaps it out of his hands landing in front of Li'lu. The sprite recognizes it as a family symbol of Vinicci, the same symbol on Gallant’s sword. The party tries to calm Lazarus down as they want to ask Valloween how she is connected to the Viniccis but he uses the command rod to halt the party.
The party decides that they don't really like what Lazarus is doing so, in a quick succession of moves, they manage to grab the control rod from him to break their collars and empower Valloween by putting away the Shapeshifter's Rod. With her powers back, Valloween controls the shadowy tendrils from her well, and consumes Lazarus. Valloween doesn't immediately attack the party as they just saved her and Li’lu decides to ask about Gallants’ brother. Valloween informs them that she has him in the lower prison cells. She will give up the kid, as he is of no use to her, if the party leaves her estate. The party agrees and Valloween gives Valor to the party. Bryan still worries if their oath with Lazarus of getting what he desires was satisfied so Bryan asks about the sigil. Valloween informs them that Lazarus wasn't after that sigil but the research of the experiments that Valloween was conducting. Apparently the dwarves were turning on each other for money, by kidnapping each other's children, and Lazarus was siphoning wealth to fund her research.
The party convinces Valloween to let them in on what she was doing that got Lazarus so vicious for and she reveals that through her research, Valloween has made a Shard of Oblivion. She asks the party what they see and Ea’r and Bryan look into the shard to find that it is somehow alive and moving. They hand it off to Remag for safe keeping and Valloween tasks the party to take the shard to a shrine of The Seven because she thinks it has something to do with them.
The party travels along the mountain and arrive to a shrine of The Seven. While walking closer to the Shrine, the shard begins to vibrate as Remag nears. Remag decides to pull out the shard and take a step closer to the shrine. The violet shard shatters into 7 pieces forming a 7 pointed star. The shrine then presents a pedestal where someone might place their hand to which Remag does so. A violet light flashes and the 7 sided star expands all around Remag and he finds himself in an infinite shadow with a ray of Violet light. Power surges from his arm into his right eye refracting his pupil into a 7 pointed star. Remag stands next to the other 6 violet eyes and the feeling of purpose fills him as the torch has been passed. The 7 pointed star reveals the past seven behind them and ahead is the golden tapestry torn and taught with the center filled with a sense of wrongness leaving being nothing. Remag understands that time is fleeting, that the end is upon the world but he also sees a tiny light, a thread of hope that he shares with everyone else. Remag catch glimpses of the party that the other violet eyes are in. Voices being to sing, whispering instruction, telling him that the Herald beckons, his bonds are broken, and now the true battle begins. Without him the star is not complete, and without his companions he can’t do this alone, only together can hope survive.
As Remag bears the runes of the master the Seven impart their wisdom, knowledge of the runes fills his head. Remag now knows his true goals. They must now travel to the holy cities of Orde and walk a path through what the inquisition left to find the ancient relics that lie within them because those relic lies a secret that will tip the scales of the great war. The party is now free from the Iron and destiny is in their own hands.

Shadow of Tyre Ep. 12 (RoyalCaster)
To clear things up, this session takes place before Moe and Soul of Tyre go to EldarShar'kai.
Once the party makes it back to camp, they start talking to the other parties. Ahst enacts her prank by transforming into dog Raost, and tells Seren that there is a deer man walking around the camp trying to convince people that he is Raost. Eventually Seren is confronted with the issue of trying to decide which one is the real Raost, she figures this out by using the sending stone she gave Raost, and seeing which one responds; being the Deer Raost. The Tops tell the party they had found Song of the Seven and wanted to share it with the Song Blade wielders. Seren sends for Belanovan and immediately Braktor warns the group to never use this song. They then store the song into Toot's Box.
The party decides that while they are there, they might as well show Belanovan the tapestry Raost touched that transformed him. As a devout follower of the Matron of Fate, Belanovan is able to find a hidden star patterns revealing fate. Ahst then shows the tapestry of songblade wielders to the others and Eustace and Seren recognize the third songblade wielder is Guy from the fight in the dream with the Cataclysmic Parable. Within that tapestry there is a star map that leads to a place of power, and it says
“Within us, the infinite walks, the twin snakes hold sway, seek thee the hall of mirrors.”
Essentially, the tapestry discloses that this place is in the shifting city. After taking a closer look at the red moon tapestry, Belanovan finds a power word hidden within the tapestry: Jhasa Oriana. Ahst convinces Belanovan to let her be the one to tell Moe. Belanovan asks the group if they know of the shifting city, Braktor thinks he can connect some dots and eventually establishes that it's the city of Eassemere. Ahst gives Moe the word and he discovers that the word can teleport people to the planet Ori.
Raost decides to summon Delani, a merchant of Eassemere. After Raost scares him off, they use Toot’s sending to contact Raost’s refraction and asks her to be let in the city. She declines. However Derk, another person in Eassemere, wants them in the city, because the refraction Inuchiyo and someone else are arguing, and he likes the conflict this party has started. He teleports to them to get an idea of who he’s going to be bringing to his city. As he is a racist, Derk insults every single person he sees as none of them are human, and he only talks to Mad Morc, who is half-human. He then recognized the Violet in the eyes of both Mad Morc and Toot, and informs them that
“The 7th eye is open, the star is complete, the Herald surges, and whispers the traitors blade is revealed so to are the relics of the seven to be sought those of who’s bonds have been broken seek them, but they will need your aid, seek the scrolls of nidicar hidden within the wizard’s labyrinth, and to bring them to him so he can translate the scrolls”.
The party convinces Derk to take them to Eassemere, but before they leave for the city, Raost grabs Seren’s shoulder as if to go in for a kiss, but just says “ I’m still your loyal wolf, you know that right?” and pats her head, and tries to leave, but Seren grabs his coat and goes for the kiss. Ahst decides to meet with Inu to ask how many people she can take with her to the shattered gate. Inu informs her that 3 guardians are needed to teleport large groups of people.
Raost also decides to ask Madd Morc to train him and change his fighting style to tunnel fighter. Eustace and Seren sleep, Toot and Ahst fill their stomach and the session ends.

Sunday
Erin's Day Out Oneshot
Erin is blasting off into space by the vessel of Aladine. After reaching orbit, Erin looks out of the window to see Verum and the Leviathans. As the vessel drifts through space, it passes a gate in the water plane and it goes into hyperdrive. The spaceship then flies through magical stardust which empowers Erin. Eventually, Erin looks out to find a planetary creature that is similar to Queirg. The ship offers to land there but Erin wills it to pass by and the ship obliges. Time passes and the ship goes through another gate that seems to have opals and it is in the colors of the rainbow. This time the ship goes into light-speed which knocks Erin out. The vessel injects something into Erin's legs to keep him alive. He eventually wakes up in another nebula to find a glowing asteroid. Erin presses the button to grab it and it seems to have increased the fuel. At the homestretch, a leviathan-type creature enters the ships sight. The vessel immediately shuts off as if it is trying to hide from it. Erin does nothing and the creature passes by unaware of the ship. Finally, the vessel reaches Band and lands near a library.

Shattered Crowns S2 Ep. 14
The party prepares to set of to the bowels of Queirg to find the missing pieces for their vessel. However, before they leave, Iron Pipe (Big Pipe's new name) uses Faulty's (Robotic Pet) training mode to give him a new ability. Faulty shows what he can give and Iron Pipe chooses to get magnification in optics allowing to him to clearly see things two miles away. As that is finished, the party goes back into the boat and head to the lower end. However, as they traverse, there are signs that they are being followed but it seems to be interrupted as signs of a caster battle has occurred. The party increase their pace, jump into the boat, and heads to the bowels.
At the entrance of the bowels, there is a giant hole showing that they have to commit to entering the bowel as it would take considerable effort to climb back up. They jump down to find intestinal walls that shine with an eternal red light. While walking through the tubes, they notice rotting flesh and something that moves behind the walls of flesh. Ikkar looks at the flesh trying to identify the problem. He realizes that the rot isn't magical but natural; it's cancer. They eventually walk up and find an area darkening the flesh. Ikkar pokes a hole into it to find a multitude of parasitic beings. The party walks away as the beings move around the flesh. Scrumpo finds a hole that leads to another part of intestines and Iron Pipe uses Arcane Eye to scout ahead.
The eyes scouts through intestine and stomach acid to find an assortment of items. First he finds a corpse infused by the flesh with a shattered weapon around it. Iron Pipe looks at the weapon and sees that that weapon is from the Feywild. He then finds a mirror that is one of the pieces they need for the ship. He drops the coordinates of where it is and continues scouting. In another area, Iron Pipe finds barrels that seems to not part be part of Queirg as it is a different tech level. As he walks past, Iron Pipe finds a pile of treasure and moving bags. In the lower areas of the bowels, Iron Pipe finds a Viaken ship and on it, a symbol of Viderick. Lastly, Iron Pipe finds a destroyed spaceship and a giant mana crystal with another part for the ship inside of it. However, the Arcane Eye is restrained and a powerful cancerous being comes out. The monster reverses the eye powers and cuts it off.
The cancerous being teleports in front of the party. It introduces itself as Bronchial, The Cancerous Lord and False Saint. Scrumpo asks why Bronchial is here and it responds that it looks over the parasitic beings as it is its children. Bronchial plans to infect Queirg and uses its flesh to create another world. Scrumpo warns that there is another being that is also infecting Queirg. Bronchial is interested and Scrumpo offers a trade of knowledge for free passage. Guy interjects by saying that they just want parts for their ship and Bronchial is delighted by that actions as it opens the wound to the surface allowing Bronchial to infect more. Iron Pipe then explains how there is another cancer that is even stronger than him. Guy explains that that other corruption is violet energy. At the saying of Violet, Bronchial laughs as he will now keep his word and teleports the party to the mana crystal.
Bronchial will take a necklace from a nearby cyst and wear its on its neck. The party sees that the symbol is a green triangle (one of the symbols on Amber's belt). Bronchial explains that it will help them so that it can upkeep its promise to a cardinal. Bronchial explains that it is allied with two other beings that wait in their respective domains until they are called. The others are already contacted by the green triangle and prepare for what is to come. Scrumpo asks which cardinal he promised to and the False Saint answers that a cardinal with arms of black and white wolves (Tane from Shadow of Tyre) gave it purpose at its weakest state. Instead of killing Bronchial, the cardinal put him into flesh so that Bronchial could get more powerful. Scrumpo mentions that they met a similar guy when they fought in the dream. Realizing that they are allies for long than they have thought, Scrumpo persuades Bronchial to kill the Archkeeper and the academy while keeping the innocent lives of Queirg safe. Bronchial will ask what parts they need and the party will answer. Bronchial will teleport the parts for the spaceship to them. It also gives Scrumpo a flesh sac so that they won't die if they meet the other beings of the green triangle. Bronchial will then leave the party and to start to use the giant mana crystal to make more children.
The party discuss discreetly that they should come back to Queirg to make sure that Bronchial doesn't go too chaotic. They look at the destroyed spaceship nearby to find the last part, the devil's stolen power. Iron Pipe grabs the crystal and his power suit confirms that they have everything and they should come back to the ship. The party goes back to Bronchial to talk about the treasure room, Feywild weapon, and symbol of Viderick. Bronchial tells the party that the treasure room is cursed but will give the Feywild weapon and symbol of Viderick to them. Bronchial also goes to Huck and, because he was nice to it, make a flesh version of his hat and gives to him. Lastly, Bronchial teleports the party out of the bowels and they head back to the ship.

Monday
Secrets in the Stone Ep. 8 (av5hadow)
Under pressure from her refractions, Ulm worries about the violet presence the clowns released. She asks the party to reconsider the Lantern Lighter’s (LL) request. Taffy informs the party that the investigation will take up a lot of their time and advises that they should focus on one task. Dusty suggests to take the first investigation step to see how long it would take, and the party returns to the regent
LL gives the location of where his Lords disappear, saying that the new Violet disturbance has increased travel time to 3 days. The party asks if there’s a faster method of travel, and LL mentions the portal in the castle. However, using the portal would expose Lieve to the Violet as it takes time to close it. LL asks them about their main mission, and this time, the party reveals that they are under a time crunch to look for “items” from various locations. LL offers the portal to their cause as long as he knows where the location is. They mention the Library of Kacaell, which LL happens to know of back during his days as the Scarab Lord’s servant. However, the Library has defenses which would prevent teleportation without proper clearance. LL takes a chance and casts Sending to Minthis Ad’daire, asking for clearance. “You are welcome to try”. Tirsis says that they should test the portal to the Library, and if the way is clear, they should return and investigate the coast. All but Claw agree, and they teleport to the Library
Once they arrive, a pulse of magic dispelled the portal. With only one way forward, the party investigates the local ruins. The nearby obelisk has its elven writings scratched off, and thus its trap disabled. As Elwood and Claw scratches off 100gp worth of gold flakes off of a statue, the rest investigates the missing chunk of an enormous stone door that leads into the Library. It appears that something forced it way inside, and a violet light appears through the hole. The party enters
They discover the remains of Kabraxus Five (KB) with a large rod embedded in him. There is a scythe and a hat near him. Dusty believes KB died from his soul being taken. On KB is a letter and a journal. In the journey’s last entry, the writer says he must keep “it” out of the Library and also mentions Kalla’Jin. The entry’s date implies KB died in the past 18 days. They also find a holy symbol of Raquel, which is a pocket watch that looks similar to the same one Babylon gave to Gorrul.Ulm noticed the Elvin symbols on the shaft and the amber sphere on the open end of the rod. The Elvin symbol is a formula, and a master craftsman made the sphere. Dusty identifies the scythe as the Scythe of the Found. On the shaft is a poem, and Elwood takes it. The party investigates the hat which is made with fine cloth and gems. On the inside is the symbol of the Black Pantheon. The symbol contains an extra piece which hints to a locked deity. Suddenly, the hat spins, and then a lady comes out
She introduces herself as the Hatter Mad (HM), a former servant of the pre-reckoning Feywild. She thanks the party, and now she says that she can finish her task that the Seven gave to her. When the party tells her that she is in service of the 7 as well, she asks for the 7’s whereabouts. Taffy tells HM that the Seven has been mostly dead for years. HM breaks down, mumbling about her task. However, her spirit shoots back up when the party informs HM about Ulm’s relation to the 7. She tells the party that her hat can take them anywhere she knows of or any location connected to a ley line. This means that every single stream game can be connected. She then joins the party as an ally.
The party moves on to explore the rest of the ruins. While the rest enters a section full of tables, chairs, and four spiral staircases that leads to the floor below, Claw discovers a door with a yellow square. He returns to the party and leads them to the door. Meanwhile, Ulm finds a blue book which happens to be a Tome of Abjuration, a book on basic abjuration and joins her companions at the door. All of them feel some sort of significance from the yellow party, but that’s about it. Nothing magical. They go down one set of stairs. They immediately feel heat upon while descending the stairs. Once they are at the bottom, several creatures look in their direction, detecting intruders in their territory. Ulm urges HM and Taffy to go back upstairs for safety.

Heart of Tyre Ep. 10 (av5hadow)
The party returns to camp. To clear timelines up, at this point of time, the Soul of Tyre group is about to leave with their translator, and Erin is not available. Seren calls for a group meeting. Seren wants to get the party to promise to kill her if something takes over her again. It’ll be the very last resort. She also wants to talk to Braktor to get in contact with her refraction, “E”, thinking that her refraction got infected. She also knows that the party wants to ask Braktor about Band and Azengolt. Derok summons Braktor (Ozzie and Ahst too) via YAPP.
Before they ask about the planets, Seren asks Braktor to bring them to the Night Guard, the faction E is a part of. Braktor calls for Vizier Lozenkor, asking him to teleport the group to Dolton. The Vizier informs the Tops that they are wanted in Dolton for the Wild Magic Sewer Incident back in Bleak. He then lectures the group, stating that the group should be focused on the labyrinth, and he also says that they do not need to go in person and that he can send messengers. After the lecture, he leaves the tent. Braktor gives cryptic advice to Seren on dealing with the Depthar in her head. While Braktor appraising the weapon, Derok asks about the angels and Band. Braktor says the planet is “lost,” but some of the regular folks might be okay. Morc asks Braktor and Ozzie if they can identify the nodachi that he got from Hoto 10 sessions ago. Braktor finally identifies the blade, the Koikuen or Memory’s Edge
In the Maptools chat, Ahst gives Ives amber arrows. Ahst tells Ives about amber’s properties of severing connections. Ives calls over Seren, shows her the arrows, relays the amber’s properties. She wants to coat one of her spare masks with amber
Derok goes to Ahst, asking if she studied the Song of the Seven. She says she’s not allowed and looks at Braktor who says that they should wait for the third Guy. The party then leaves the tent. The party checks on the smith on the progress of their orders. “It has been one day.” However, he does have the three cocaine arrows done and give them to Ives. Seren asks Braktor to make an amber-lined mask and gives him 20 amber arrows and a spare mask. He says that he can do it. On the topic of rocks, Braktor informs them of two rocks on Band. Voidka is essentially extremely radioactive. Negatia is able to absorb all magical power from a spellcaster. Derock buys a Potion of invulnerability for 3000gp from Igor in a very quick transaction
Meanwhile at the trees of revelation, Ozzie and Morc finish praying for their gods. Ozzie prays to Lorn to protect the Tops. Morc prays to Iass to help Seren. Ozzie tells Morc to be strong for his party, and the two of the hug. Ozzie leaves. As Morc leaves, he receives a vision from Iass. Morc knows that the seventh eye has been opened, and the Herald is making moves. He goes back to the market where Seren, Derok, and Braktor are. Braktor just gave Seren an Amber-lined mask. The present Tops agree that they need to gather the seven eyes. Braktor says that when the eyes gather, it will be the start of the final push. All of them do agree that they should be informed of the situation at the very least, but the unsolved problem now is to both identify and find them
Morc asks how to release souls from soul crystals. Braktor says that there is a way, but they will need to bring them back to the camp. Braktor also informs them that the Depthar are weak to songs. Meanwhile, Ahst and Neve distract a shopkeeper to let Ives steal a spyglass. Ives places a pouch that contains 400gp and an IOU. After the deed, Ives writes a message and folds it into an origami crane. He then leaves it on the shrine of Vavren
Seren gives the Vizier a letter and asks him to deliver it to the Night Guard. She also describes E’s appearance as she doesn’t know E’s name. She then goes to Roast and makes out with him as it would be her last time doing so with a tongue. When Seren goes to the portal, (through Arcadum) she realises that she won’t be able to cast spells with vocal components without her tongue. Someone recommends a muzzle, and Igor who overhears this the conversation provides her with a muzzle. Neve asks the Vizier to send a message to the third changeling she and Ahst saw. Morc asks Vizier to send messages to the Violet Eyes. The party then enters the portal. Vizier contemplates the fact that all the groups left the camp and hums himself a bop. A nearby guard joins him.

Soul of Tyre Ep. 9 (SootheBe11)
Last time in Soul of Tyre the gang got wedded, opened the door to archives and sent Erin off into space to Band.
The session starts with all of the party members, Moe, the High Ael, Ano, and Mateslayer staring at the empty spot where the huge mecha (thought to be the statue of Aladine) blasted off. The High Ael starts to question Belanovan about what had happened, and in an attempt to tell them half-truths, Braktor ends up making it worse leading the Shar'kai to think that the party has blasphemed against them. Luckily, Moe states he has the ability to see the soul of another and can contact Eren through Gruff; the Shar’kai agrees and they all go back into the main hall where the reception is being held.
While walking back, they spot Gruff at the altar of Aladine, praying to Crowley for guidance in how to get stronger since he has been feeling complacent. The hand of Aladine starts to seep with blood forming into Crowley. Crowley speaking to Gruff, tells him that in order for Gruff to seek guidance, then Gruff must conduct a pointless battle producing a pointless death. Crowley then looks around in the room and speaking boastfully to all the Shar’kai proclaim that their God is dead, and he is the one who killed him. All of the Shar’kai gasp and become infuriated as Crowley disappears.
Ozzie, feeling the atmosphere in the room, attempts to battle Gruff to the death, however the High Ael has ordered all of the party to be restrained and Mateslayer does so with a simple power word. As the whole Soul of Tyre group goes unconscious, Moe is the only character not to be affected because he is Mateslayer’s husband. The Shar’kai discuss the events that led to multiple blasphemies conducted by the party, leading to a discussion about what has occurred and what they will do next. Moe interjects, saying that he can help in knowing more about what happened due to the ability of his cyclopean eye. The High Ael agrees and lets Moe, look into Gruff.
As Moe looks at Gruff, he falls to ground as his body astrally projects into the astral sea towards the planet of Band with a white thread showing his path back to his body. Meanwhile in Band, Eren has just landed and is looking around at his surroundings, going back into the vessel to look more into what had happened. While he is doing so, Moe appears before him, and starts to question where he is and how did he get there. As they both talk, Moe realizes the symbol of Band upon the vessel as a loud beeping noise start to emanate and a celestial being appears in front of them, that being is Valden the record keeper.
As Valden speaks, Moe and Eren learns that it has been 4,488 days since a vessel has landed on Band; Aladine is lesser angel to Hades the archangel and is missing for 28,448 days, Hades is a lord, an archangel, and “readcted”; Sheen, the vengeful scorn, is in Olstwitz, and is functional. They also learn that the vessel Eren used is in bad condition which may lead to death of the person using it again. To repair the vessel, Beator must be found, however that person is found to be in close proximity to Sheen. The two message Sheen to go to where they are, however Sheen replies that they must go to him. They then ask Valden for any teleportation devices to Kalkatesh, but it would take 11 days east to get to Duldaran. As Moe asks about what Band has to do with the Red Star, Valden becomes nullified, spouting out “error” and becomes nonfunctional. Eren then chooses to go to Olstwitz to find Sheen, using the broken vessel to travel for 3 days east while Moe heads off back to his body.
Moe returns to the astral sea, following the white thread, but encounters a huge vessel that has been torn apart, with frozen people, and ice formed inside of it. As Moe, looks around, his Cyclopian eye catches a violet light, and he sees the people dying, but more importantly a presence stares at him back. Feeling this, Moe darts out of the ship and heads towards Kalkatesh feeling as if he is alright, but before he could return to his body, a time merchant Dork has taken him to his shop.
Dork has given Moe the option to change the future, to shift fate, and Moe chose the fate in which the Soul of Tyre group would not get killed in exchange for a failure in a clash when the Shadow of Tyre goes into the labyrinth and fights an enemy. Moe floats back into his body, and tells the Shar’kai of what Eren is attempting to do, weirdly enough, the Shar’kai agree and are very easily persuaded. The Soul of Tyre group are then awakened, and are released, taking their leave to the labyrinth once again.

Strange Roads Ep. 17, FINALE (SootheBe11)
Last time on Strange Roads, the gang found a violet Ricardo attempting to do a ritual to some kind. A battle ensues, Wode gives them strength, and Nox has grappled him into the dream realm.
As Nox takes the Violet Ricardo into the dream realm and closes the portal, Arcidamus, Zacharias, Mirage, and Koordrin attempt to help her by the power of friendship. More specifically, Zacharias cast dispel darkness to block the Herald’s gaze and Mirage clashes against the Herald. Mirage wins the clash with the help of Wode, diverting the Herald’s gaze, Oun then comes forth, opening a portal into the dream.
In the dream, Nox regains her strength gaining her previous level (level 8). As the portal opens, a shadow encroaches toward Ricardo attempting to crush him, however Ricardo pushes back, resisting the pressure. Then a white shadow appears, joining the black, encircling Nox, entering into her eyes. Nox’s eyes become white and black, with her scales becoming that of a monochromatic pattern, her shield and sword glow with the same energy, she has ascended to her full strength, Nox guardian of the Dream. Her comrades aid Nox, specifically 3 rerolls (from Oun, Wode, and the Mistress of Fate), a +5 to any roll (due to Koordrin’s presence), and a 1d6 to any roll (from the Gambler Black’s power).
Nox clashes with Ricardo, attacking each other until one of them falls. Clash after clash, the two strike, each one gaining advantage over the other at some point. When finally the sixth clash comes and Ricardo attempts to finish it in one strike. As Nox starts to lose her footing and Ricardo strikes his sword against her, she utilizes the strength that all her allies have given her, Nox slices through Ricardo’s rapier, shattering it. The last clash begins, with Ricardo pulling out a violet sword from his chest, but Nox blocks his sword and thrusts her own sword into him. A storm of violet erupt from Ricardo and both return to the mortal realm.
The party, astounded by Nox’s entry and her natural 20s, looks at Ricardo who is wounded on the ground. Koordrin rips the chains of Mirage’s spirit free from Ricardo and Mirage’s voice return. As Ricardo is weakened, Mirage proceeds to torture him, ripping his flesh to bone and dismembering his limbs. As the party regroup, remembering where they have come from and why they were walking on these STRANGE ROADS, Mirage gains the belt of her sister’s voices, Koordrin finds a stone engraved with a note giving it to Mirage and cuts off a piece of Ricardo’s scarf, and Nox grabs the violet book and the forbidden fighting techniques that the monastery holds. Zacharias inspects the room where Ricardo has come from, and found a strange scroll that is filled with musical notes.
Mirage enters after Zaccharias and both study the ritual more. It is the ritual for contorting the song of Creation, utilizing three voices that can be reflected off of one another, a filter to sing them through, and an unclear oath. They also discover the continent of Rynd, a continent of bards far to the west, where all know of the ancient songs. As Mirage looks upon the scroll, she realizes the she can do one of three things: reverse the ritual and learn the song of creation, destroy the ritual, complete the ritual utilizing her sisters voices, or steal from the song of creation giving her sisters life again. Mirage chose the first, and she has projected towards the Astral Sea to where Inu resides.
Inu questions Mirage about her position, about her strength in what she has done, and if she is ready to take part in the bigger picture. Mirage agrees, and she has been given the choice to choose one of the four chords: Freedom (I), Truth(V), Desire(VI), or Sacrifice(IV) which will turn her to a living song. Freedom takes the aspect of life that lets it go uncontrollably, creating life where it might not thrive, and the unpredictability of life’s circumstances that life can appear in. Truth says that some life is meant to die, it is the law of the jungle, the strong kills the weak, and determines which life continues and which does not. Desire shows that all things are found within life, for without it, life is stagnant and pointless. Sacrifice reveals life is a tragedy but within oneself, they can find the strength to go on. Mirage chose freedom.
A bright light encompasses Mirage in the mortal realm, as she transforms her clothes into an intricate golden dress with silver linings floating phantasmally off her body, her head covered in a veil, with her hair is held up by a barrette as her nightmare powers dissipate, and instead, she gains the power of the chord of Freedom.
The gang goes back to Valloween, gathering THE BOIS, and Arcidamus learns of his tasks from a scroll that Valloween held. What Arcidamus sees on the scroll is not a scroll but a peace of the tapestry of fate. He sees a 7 pointed star comprised of the tapestry’s threads, and eyes opening at each end. In the center of the star he sees the mass of violet energy and the Herald, moving through time, the celestial bodies, etching his way towards Kalkatesh. The threads begin to wrap Arcidamus, showing him that one must walk this path to seek the pieces of the prism for only then can the edge be revealed. The twilight station must be visited, the vessels must be gathered, the keys must be placed within their shelf, and only then will the astral traveler reveal the way. Arcidamus then sees other symbols, a red star, an orange star, a yellow cube, a green triangle, a blue cross, and an indigo scar. Then it fades out reflecting against each other, being put together to a prism. Arcidamus' vision fades and the Matron calls to him to walk the path to seek the missing star, the Orange star. As he looks towards the group and towards the camera he says “Shit”.
Nox curious about the violet book that she has gotten, then looks into it, her eyes begin to dilate and her scales glowing a more violet hugh. Then a voice whispers to Nox, “I see you”, Koordrin knocks the book out of Nox’s hand, and she returns to normal. As the party argues about to do with the book, Zacharias notices the number two in Roman numerals on the binding of the book with his violet eye. Nox then proceeds to wrap the violet book in twine and throw it into the bag of cursed items along with the violet crown.
The party then heads back to the Jaquire’s caravan, where they set off for the last stretch of their journey. As the caravan approaches Steton, Jaquire goes to each of the party members, giving them a blue scarf that shows a symbol of elves and the elven symbol of help so that whenever they need aid they just need to show it. Zacharias is the first to bid his farewell seeking a quiet place in steten to rest from his adventure, so that one day when his time is called because of his eye, he is ready. Koordrin is next, stating that he is to find his wife not only because a Tortle told him to, but for that +2 AC baby, then when he finds her he will then follow the path of Cassius. As Nox’s mission comes to a close, a new one begins for she has seen what was in the violet tome. Nox saw her sisters fallen to violet ash, the blue ribbon of the Alice flown away, and the feywild loss. Nox must gather her scattered sisters, and in her dreams Oun has shown her visions of Tomen and Li’lu who has found the weeping rabbit, for perhaps she can walk the path of the Alice. Mirage, now filled with purpose as one of the Chords, travels towards the island of Tyre where she may help the three groups in fighting the wizard’s labyrinth. Arcidamus is the last to leave, now feeling the call of fate, he travels towards the Badlands where he seeks the old remains of the elven archives as to perhaps find clues to find the Orange star.

Death and Debts Ep. 7
The party fights the gray acolytes they found in the sewers. In the midst of the fight, they are ambushed from behind by a mercenary that can control spirits. They kill the gray acolytes but try to convince to mercenary to surrender as they don't want to kill her. The mercenary refuses and knocks out Umi and Zara. Vaeri sees this and delivers the lethal blow to the mercenary ending combat. As she falls to the ground, a silver mirror drops out of her. Revlis and Umi look at the mirror and sees that it is hallowed but not by Wode or Oun. They pass it around until it reaches to Terryn. As she looks into the mirror, her eyes dilate and visions flow into her mind. Terryn appears on a path of shattered glass; before her stands a citadel of reflections and symbols of a two-headed serpent. She walks through until she reaches a gate to find shadows of other changelings. Terryn turns around to find a white serpent who says "Welcome home, child" and they have much to discuss. Terryn asks where she is and finds another white serpent behind but both are connected. The two serpent heads discuss and guides her to a fountain of liquid glass. One snake head touches the fountain and it becomes a giant mirror. Terryn gazes into a mirror and falls through it.
Terryn teleports to the vast Astral Sea and Tomen stands besides her. The god tells Terryn that he is her brother. Tomen explains that he is the only male that came from the Hags as he was the first. He the shifts topics by telling Terryn that their kin might finally have a home since she is here. However, that has to wait as the enemy moves across the sky and the seventh eye is open. Tomen urges Terryn to meet with her sisters to create the Trigram so that the lost Isles of the Vega can be revealed. Terryn asks if he is related to Wode and Tomen responds that both were made from the dream. Lastly, Tomen shows Terryn the sisters she must seek in the Arcane Labyrinth.
While Revlis holds the mirror wondering where Terryn went, the changeling comes out of the mirror on to of her. Terryn runs around overwhelmed by what she saw and passes out. The party then loots the mercenary to find some documents and in there was a letter. It says how the mercenary is one of the last people that can open a gate and she is very important to somebody plans. Madeleine goes into another room to find potent tonics of Haste, Invulnerability, Flight, and Giant Strength. The party divides the tonics amongst each other. The then decide what they will do next week.

2020.09.24 19:31 thereisalightandit 27 [M4F] Netherlands/EUW - I am human and I need to be loved, just like everybody else does

Hey everyone,
Been postponing making this post for a while, but to hell with it, I don’t have anything to lose. My name’s Jim, 27 years old, from EUW, probably considered ugly by a large portion of the population (I disagree, hence the hair still being there, I’ll try and add a picture but I don’t know if it’ll work, link will be at the bottom) and the talkative introvert kind. I’m really bad at making these billboard commercial kinda posts but I’ll give it my best shot! Also, typed INTJ for those who are interested in that.
I have been a professional musician for most of my life, so needless to say my music is very important to me. Some of my favorite acts would be (in no particular order): The Smiths, Tom Waits, David Bowie, Tool, the Beatles, Alice in Chains and I love anything by Green Day til this day (up to American Idiot anyways, that record is fucking fire). Next to music I have the usual nerd hobbies. Think reading, writing and I play video games off and on. Some things I play would be WoW and Overwatch but i’m not really active, my gaming mood comes and goes. Because I do like being outside a lot too.
I’m looking for someone who I’d like to make an effort to understand and is willing to do the same (basically the LoOkInG fOr A mEaNiNgfUl cOnNecTiOn like we’ve all seen on Tinder etc). Preferably close to me, I’d like to meet you sometime! I’d like to know what makes you tick, what kind of music you listen to and what your thoughts are when nobodies around. I’m weird, can be intense and to some people I’m considered a blunt asshole. But I’d say I’m also pretty caring, rational and I try to never do anything harmful to anyone.
I do want to clear one thing up and it’s kind of heavy but I’d like to get it out of the way since it’s ruined the couple of irl dates I did have. A family member very dear to me got raped not too long ago and ever since then sex has gotten kinda weird for me. Like, I always feel like I’m pushing myself onto someone and have a hard time becoming at ease. This was never the case in the past so it might disappear. I’m not asexual I think, but don’t expect me to become overtly sexual real quick.
If my post and face didn’t scare you off, feel free to message me. Just start a rant about your favorite song or something if you find that stuff hard (I know i do sometimes).
Wishing everyone on here the best!

2020.09.08 02:40 MermaidRiotGrrrl Books To Read While We Wait for Season Two

Hey friends, how's the hiatus treating you? Hope you are all doing well and good. I saw someone on Tumblr share some shows and movies to watch while waiting for the next season of The Owl House and I thought I'd make some book recommendations.
Most of these can be found at your local library and through the Libby app (which you need a library card to access but its very worth it I promise)
If anyone would like to add books, please feel free to.
Labyrinth Lost by Zoraida Cordova - Bi latina witch mc, although she doesn't like having magic powers
These Witches Don't Burn by Isabel Sterling - Gay coven in modern Salem does witchcraft
We Set The Dark on Fire by Tehlor Kay Mejia - Two women marry the same man, fall in love with each other
The Gilded Wolves by Roshani Chokshi - Six nerds on a heist/treasure hunt in 1880s Paris
Girls of Paper and Fire by Natasha Ngan - Human girls hate the Demon King but love each other (warning there is sexual assault in this book)
Of Fire and Stars by Audrey Coulthurst - Just an adorable wlw story about two princesses
When the Moon Was Ours by Anna-Marie McLemore - A whimsical story about a girl who grows flowers from her wrists and a boy who paints the moon. I recomend checking out this author's other works too, she's a really good writer.
The Dark Tide by Alicia Janiska - A woman offers herself as sacrifice to the Witch Queen and they fall in love
Blazewrath Games by Amparo Ortiz - This one comes out on October 6th and it's like How To Train Your Dragon if the dragons went to the olympics)
Lobizona by Romina Garber - A novel rich with Argentine folklore, werewolves and witches abound!
Spellbook of The Lost and Found by Moira Fowley-Doyle - If there's one thing Moira Fowley-Doyle does well it's curses, this book has a lot of them
A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab - Magicians can travel between parallel Londons
Queens of Geek by Jen Wilde - Takes place at a con and follows three different characters through the con, a nice tribute to fandom
Her Royal Highness by Rachel Hawkins - A normal girl goes to a boarding school in Scotland and her roommate is a princess
The Princess and The Fangirl by Ashley Poston - Another book set at a con, but this time a girl switches places with an actress to solve a mystery. It's a sequel but I didn't read the first book and I could follow this one.
Radio Silence by Alice Oseman - A heartwarming story about friendship and platonic love
Not Your Sidekick by C.B. Lee - The daughter of two heroes falls in love with the daughter of two villains
The Never Tilting World by Rin Chupeco - The planet stands still, one side always facing the sun, the other always in darkness. Really good world building and I also recommend reading other works by this author because they are an excellent writer.
The Falling In Love Montage by Ciara Smith - Two girls go on dates promising they will not fall in love with one another, guess what happens

I had more but this is enough for now.
Comment any other book recs you might have!

2020.09.02 18:00 steelstepladder VH1's 100 Greatest Songs of the 90's Rate!

Intro Please Watch

Remember when VH1 played music retrospectives around the clock? I sure do and I miss it terribly. If you weren't around for the series at it's peak, it's easy to miss how great these specials were. Just by looking at some of their lists at face value the order of the songs could be a little wonky to say the least, even if the spots were chosen by votes. But when you step back from the specifics and look at the big picture, you would get an extremely diverse and thorough crash course into the trends and music of the time. You'd get the indie darlings, the headlining acts, the flashes in the pans, the award winners, and the novelty acts all in one. It's better to not think of their lists as statements of overall quality, but more as the definitive songs that created the soundtrack of the decade. If you don't know much about a particular genre or decade of music, their lists are an incredible first step into discovering so much great music. Me and my lovely cohost u/pearllouise will be hosting this great look into the past where we will be rating their greatest songs of the 90's list! From TRL pop to gangsta rap to grunge it's all here! Throw on some flannel to get into the mood because things are about to get totally tubular!

A brief history of the series

VH1 started their "The Greatest" series in 2002 when they counted down the 100 sexiest artists of all time (number one was Madonna, of course it was Madonna). The early specials were not really what they would be known for as they still had a bit of time before they found their groove. Mostly the earlier episodes would be more along the lines of "50 Greatest Teen Idols" and "100 Most Outrageous Celebrity Moments" and stuff like that. Early "The Greatest" episodes did have their moments like their list of hard rock bands, but when I see people talk about their favorite countdowns I mostly see people bring up the late 2000's episodes. The first decade end retrospective came out in 2006 when the counted down the 100 Greatest Songs of the 80's and this was the first time I stumbled upon the series and I immediately fell in love. The series would continue on this trend with 90's and 00's retrospectives as well as counting down the greatest one hit wonders of both the 80's and the 90's.
Luckily enough for us, somebody was kind enough to upload almost the entire"100 Greatest One Hit Wonders of the 80's" special onto Youtube so if you're curious to see what they were like feel free to check that out. If you don't want to watch, imagine 100 bite sized One Hit Wonderland episodes by Todd in the Shadows and you kind of get the idea. As a matter of fact Todd has mentioned in the past that the specials were influential on his content and the phrase "One Hit Wonderland" is actually mentioned several times throughout the 80's retrospective. Most of the series has unfortunately been lost to time which makes it all the more important that we look back at one of the most popular countdowns they did, and rerank all the songs in Popheads image.

2020.08.12 03:31 Issaltar1 A retelling of the worst Ghosts of Saltmarsh game [extra long]

Hi there table top horror story enthusiasts! I’ll be retelling a story I posted in broken fragments while this train wreck of a game (and group) was happening. Now that all the details are here I will try my best to write as many of the details from memory. First a bit of backstory.
I’m a semi-long term dnd player starting off in HS playing 4e (yeah I know was awful that’s another story for another time about having a killer DM) i hadn’t been in a group for anywhere between 12-15 years since then and was really looking for a group. I usually DM but I was really in the mood to roll up a PC and just play a character, that’s when my buddy (who will be known as The Barb from now on) told me about a game of Ghosts of Saltmarsh he just started to play in. The DM was apparently a Con friend from a local convention here that I frequent. In hind sight this should have been my first red flag knowing the DM but I thought nothing of it, I just wanted to play a PC.
I am told we are all 3rd lvl so decided to roll up my first rogue ever. A third level goblin scout. I tend to hate rogue play in video games. They feel too slow to get to where I need to be and I can’t do face tank shenanigans or just nuke baddies from afar with spellcasters. Decided to go scout from xanthars hoping to play a sort of bounty hunter who can track anyone anywhere by going ranger while using fog cloud for a sort of smokescreen for the ambush like gameplay of the subclass. I should mention I’m a bit of a munchkin/minmaxer this will come in later.
The final, and arguably one of the if not the most important detail in this story to begin to understand the atmosphere here, was that this game was taking place at a Norse Pagan religious center and the DM was their Thul(Thule?) basically he was like a shaman/spirit talker for the religious community. Lots of heavy drinking was done here to the point where DM gloats about being an alcoholic.
I will introduce the characters as what I’ll refer to them while in character and give them fake ooc character names for the sake of anonymity because christ almighty there is a lot. The Dm (ooc Bob) and the rogue (me).
Upon arrival I meet our party, the monk (ooc name is Fred), the barb(ooc Mark), the ranger(Ooc name Jen) the druid(ooc Mary), morridon bronzebeard (Ooc Pierre) and the sorc (Vlad). I would like to give them more interesting names in game but the most rp we got was the barbarian loxodon who had a sound board of elephant noises on his phone and could apparently smell when people were in heat. THIS should have been my clue number two but my dumb ass stayed willfully ignorant.
Some extra back story on our players that will pop up later is, both Fred and Jen are in a relationship AND end up making me their adopted son basically, because of personal reasons, this leads to drama later ooc. Mary is a mother of two teenagers, a paraplegic 14 y/o daughter (ooc Alice) and a 13 y/o son. Vlad is Marys brand new boyfriend she met at the religious property.
With all that lets get started
We all sit down for our session zero meet. The most interesting thinngs that happen are as follows:
  1. The barb discovers female druid healer is in heat
  2. Fred has two characters die. Once by his own fault and second because dm just is failing to push the party to go save him. Pulling bs out of his ass afterwards based on barbs backstory
  3. My goblin tricks morridon bronzebeard into trusting him.
After a fight against a knight of the people who massacred barbs tribe we call it for the night with Fred rolling up a third character. Everything so far is going well...I was a fool because this is when the shitstorm begins starting with both Jen and Fred.
You see both Fred and Jen apparently didn’t have a great relationship and, in hindsight, Jen was REALY into me despite both of us being in relationships at the time. Jen decided she wanted to take a break with Fred and Fred goes into a whole drunken depression that spills over into the dnd groups fb chat. It becomes super cringe and he is kicked out of the group by DM. The two of them officially break up and from then on I get put in the center of their fued out of game at every event till Fred is officially kicked from the grounds after something happened at a Halloween party on the property.
The second session oh boy this is when player agency BEGINS to take a back seat.
We continue the storyline and get roped up chartering a boat to cross the sea. Apparently, the captain is transporting cargo. While we are sailing we notice strange skull tattoos on the crewmen’s necks. Seems weird but we don’t think anything of it. It is at this time DM begins to boast about how good of a player he is even though both Vlad and I were at the games he was talking about and know he is lying through his teeth. I just roll my eyes and don’t call him on his bs because of wanting to keep peace and this isn’t my house.
We sail till night and a thick fog rolls in and the crew get scared. A dragon turtle pops up next to the ship able to speak common, has the same skull tattoos around his neck that the crew have, and tells us that the captain is stealing cargo from a pirate conglomerate or something basically it’s the pirate organization from PotC 3 with the pieces of 8. Dragon turtle proceeds to cast magic and two of the tattoos disappear blowing the head of two crew mates.
We roll init with me going first and the pirate captain of our boat going second. I decide to use thieves cant to try and come up with a plan of attack with our pirate captain. I should have known this wouldn’t have worked. I knew DM was a muscle bound idiot who cannot figure any use for thieves cant at all. Anyways, pirate captain doesn’t take the hint and then, apparently is a lvl 18 and a 9th lvl caster; proceeds to summon...something I don’t remember what which that summon then casts planar shift and whisks the dragon turtle to the elemental plane of water. We win the fight with none of us doing anything just DMPC self gratification and Bob gloating, showing off his dice rolls to Mark. We hit 4th level and I take my first level of ranger, I regret taking this because of my minmax munchkin self. We get new weapons with the best going to mark (a great axe with 1d6 acid damage bonus) this will be significant later.
Our next session comes after a month of not playing and more drama ensues, this time with Vlad and Mary. See Mary is a toxic ass individual who is nothing more than a party animal, walks all over people and has total disregard for anyone but herself. I’m pretty sure she pushed Jen into breaking up with Fred and trying to get in bed with me. Essentially, she is there dating one of the leaders (Vlad) of the community for the power trip, getting drunk and high in front of her two teen children.
On this night, drama with someone outside the group sparks a shitstorm. While this is going on Alice, Mary’s daughter, is wanting to play dnd. She has watched dozens of dnd videos on youtube, read a few threads, and is genuinely enthusiastic about playing her very first DnD game and character. Vlad was helping her roll up her bard until the shitstorm hit and I volunteered to help out being a DM and taking pity on the situation. While this was going on I would like to mention that Jen knew I was having some relationship issues and I was trying to figure out how to reconcile with my S.O. At the time. She said that she would help me out by trying to make my GF at the time jealous. Me being the autistic dumb fuck I am (have high functioning ASD) have zero idea what the hell she means by this. I spend an extra hour in a half chasing down Vlad because he has Alices’ character sheet on his phone giving me a headache. we start late because of this. Vlad doesn’t play in the game and Mary comes in drunk af 2-3 hours into the game.
Keep in mind, Jen has, also, already found someone else to date. An old hs friend of hers I met in a WoW classic discord she invited me to. Just before we start the game, Jen grabs my hand in hers and starts slow dancing with me cheek to cheek. I am genuinely confused and ask what she is doing. She says “dancing with you.” I just go with it thinking “ok, she is just overly friendly/taking pity on me because she was cheated on by her ex husband after they had a kid.” (Yeah theres a lot of fucked up personal baggage in this group.) I couldn’t have been more wrong.
The session begins with us getting to the town we were sailing to. We discover people are missing and one of those people is the local black smith. A dwarf with legendary smithing skills, and, when I say legendary I mean legendary. You see he has weapons on his walls that he made with his own hands and anvil. Not just any weapons, legendary weapons. Now any sane DM would you know, at least make it harder to get a hold of a legendary weapon or, you know, a +3 weapon, especially seeing we all got weapons after the dragon turtle fight and this is immediately after that whole shit show. No, we IMMEDIATELY get these legendary weapons and they aren’t just any legendary weapons. You remember me bringing up that we were at a norse pagan commune at the start of the story? Yeah well DM thought “Hey! I see Mjolnir is in DnD why don’t I give the players Mjolnir? That’d be cool right?” That’s right Morridon Bronzebeard got Whelm at 4th level. Me, the goblin rogue, immediately looks for wave because, once again, I’m a god damn munchkin and know how dumb the weapon is. I regret not taking fighter and going for champion for that 3rd level crit chance bonus. Btw DM ruled Wave had Finesse so that I could use it.
The rest of the party got moonblades with Jens’ (who was, at this point, white girl drunk off whiteclaw) getting a stat on the blade that gave her Pass without Trace 3/day. I bring this up because the next bit of fucking lunacy and DM stupidity happens. The DM gives the barb a homebrewed weapon called the Bonesaw.
The Bonesaw is the weapon I wrote about in the original post of ‘when the DM deviates from Ghosts of Saltmarsh’. For those of you who Don’t know/didn’t read that post here is what the bonesaw is. It is a vorpal blade with the voice of randy savage. Literally, he made the sword for the sole purpose of making randy savage jokes. This in and of itself is not bad, the issue lies in what the weapon does while unsheathed. The DM roleplays the Bonesaw into hating being sheathed and will hate the player it is attuned to for sheathing the blade. While the blade is unsheathed, he yells out to anyone trying to sneak or scout ahead yelling “HEY PEANUTHEAD!” causing ALL STEALTH CHECKS AUTO FAIL! I REPEAT! ALL! STEALTH CHECKS ! FAIL! So you know that pass without a trace he just gave Jen? Yeah pointless. You know that rogue scout he has who wants to go scout ahead and track shit as a bounty hunter? Yeah pointless. I get dicked over as rogue cause Dm wants to be funny not clever.
It is at this point I’m getting annoyed and I turn to Jen and make one of the biggest mistake of my life. “Hey you were going to do something to make my S.O. Jealous? What was that?” She takes that as a big time invitation to sexually harass me with Mary cheering her on and helping out. Literally, Jen gets up walks over to me sits on my lap, wraps her arms around my neck tells me to lift her shirt up in front of 4 other guys, Mary (Mary sees nothing wrong with this and is actively helping Jen harass me) and Alice (who is sitting on my right). Jen then takes my hand and puts it on her bareskin as she takes her shirt off and puts her breasts in my face. Like I said I have ASD and I freeze up not knowing what to do. I can’t look at her or anyone I’m staring at the table mortified by this turn of events while Mary starts twerking against my left arm. Mary then takes my phone and takes a picture of the scene and sends it to my S.O. I feel humiliated and shamed, I can’t even speak I’m so confused and mortified.
Alice is sitting right next to me and I feel even worse because I’m setting a horrible example for this 14 year old girl with these two trainwrecks of female rolemodels with this display, one being her own mother. We break and DM makes the situation with Alice worse. He brings up, in a drunken joke, that he is bringing in tomb of annihilation. Mark brings up the fact that ToA also means the death curse and I watch as Alice has her soul crushed. All enthusiasm in wanting to play dnd just dies, my DM instincts kick in and I’m angry. Bob proceeds to be a dumb fuck and go “Yeah I know! Isn’t it great?!” Only to not say he was kidding. We finished the night meeting barbs loxodon father who both Mark and I learn later is a lvl 23 barbarian ported from 3.5. I go home with Mark feeling absolutely horrid, Mary and Vlad leave compound and don’t play in anymore games along with Alice. I still feel terrible about possibly turning this poor 14 y/o girl off from ever wanting to play dnd ever again. Get home and take a long ass shower the next morning.
The final session is tamer but still has DM shittery written all over it.
Like I said we ended the last session being introduced to the barbarians father. A large loxodon who is there because his wife was captured by a bunch of lizard folk. We follow him into the next dungeon and have our first bout of combat. Everything is going alright we’re killing lizard men and then I have the brilliant idea (seeing my goblin has a 16 in intelligence) to try and use cube of force from wave to capture a lizardman commander to question later. Something happens with murderhobo barb daddy that makes DM go “he runs up to the cube and it dispells because he has a gem of antimagic field in his belt” and kills the commander.
Ooc I am beginning to get fed up with the game. I have had ,for 3 sessions in a row, my agency and my rp destroyed to the point where it is just not appealing to play a rogue. To recap, I can’t stealth, I can’t go off to scout even though that is my subclass, Thieves cant is useless amongst fellow rogues, and now I can’t even put a plan in motion before DM masterbatory god character kills my prisoner.
The party goes further into the dungeon and comes face to face with a giant lizard man and a bunch of commanders. We are in a deadly encounter fighting for out lives. The ranger is nearly struck down in combat left with 2 points of health. The DM makes a d100 roll and asks me if it’s higher or lower than 50. I guess wrong. The DM has his god character barbarian go into a blood rage prior to the d100 roll. What is a blood rage you ask? It is when a barbarian rages so hard he cannot discern friend from foe. The d100 roll was to see if he killed the ranger. I inadvertently killed another players character because of dm bullshittery. Not because I fumbled a roll, not because a plan back fired, because DM wanted to play an op character who could fuck the party over.
With that we finish combat with most of us wounded or dying, I’m the healthiest one using constant disengages so I decide, being a CN goblin rogue, to try my hand at pick pocketing. I look around seeing that everyone is preoccupied and Bobs barbarian epic level bullshit god character is facing away from me talking to Marks barbarian. I decide to try and take the moonblade from the dead ranger. Nat 20+ expertise in slight of hand. Super happy hoping that I finally beat the DM at something and can finally do my first rogue thing ever! I don’t care if I am caught later I just want to play a rogue. Dms bullshittery knowns no bounds as the barbarian god has eyes on the back of his head, his passive perception beating my slight of hand. Comes up and berates me for trying to take the blade and puts a stop to it takin everything away and carrying the body.
I am livid I have nothing else to do other than to be an npc drone to follow into a set path being railroaded by this pos dm character and other homebrewed bullshittery. I am legit shaking in frustration when this happened. I have an absurd tolerance for shit but DM finally broke me. I have my character leave party and start helping Jen roll up her new character. Horny mcBard a gay guy who wanted to have his ass filled with tentacles (no really, legit, the next thing we do is a tentacle rape scene with the bard enjoying it all in his ass). We take a break while rolling up characters, both Bob and Mark go to get food. While helping Jen roll up her new character she notices I’m tense and I explode, angry about how much bullshittery Bob is pulling. She then tells me I’m being an asshole and I give up defeated wanting to just go home but no car to drive away and too expensive to take an uber or lyft. I join up again making my god damn 37th heal bot of a heal domain cleric and basically save the party from their own idiocy and then leave the group.
As far as I know, after that last session, the group disbanded because Mark was thoroughly unhappy with the bs Bob was pulling and I don’t think they got replacement players after 5 players left.

2020.08.05 06:01 HollieSk8rGrrl Quick review of EVERY CC song from I and II (wall of text obviously!!)

God I love CC & have for years. I was gonna do III and Amnesty but it got a lil TOO long!! For credibility, I'm a nobody with no credentials other than I LOVE music, and have never been paid to write reviews of any kind ✌️ Sooo anyway rated from S+ to F-:

I
  1. Untrust Us: A-. It's one of their more playful songs, but still has that dark beauty which is in every CC song. No idea how Ethan can make tracks still sound really deep and dark even with such playful sounds - no-one else does that shit.
  2. Alice Practice: S. Alice's voice sounds SO good in this and the lyrics are some of my favorite lyrics ever, whoever wrote them (Ethan and Alice both claimed to) is a real poet. The vocals are full of intensity and emotion, there's a lotta pain and anger but vulnerability too. The song somehow sounds dirty, aggressive AND sensitive at the same time.
  3. Crimewave: A-. The vocal hook is super catchy, but the song still feels really dark even with that boppy synth solo after the verses. It reminds me of like the morning journey to school when it was rainy and grey.
  4. Magic Spells: C+. Reminds me of like daft punk's more downtempo instrumentals, but a bit duller. Not my favourite but still a pretty good song.
  5. Xxzxcuzx Me: B. I don't like the structure of this song somehow, like the verses feel too short and it doesn't really progress anywhere. But I love Alice's voice and the lyrics, it's kinda like a shittier Alice Practice.
  6. Air War B. Solid song. Pretty creative specially the sample and how it transforms in the second half but it just doesn't make me feel as emotional as some other songs.
  7. Courtship Dating: A-. I love how almost subdued this song sounds, it's like having Alice in your pocket. Her voice is addictive in this and the melody & arrangement is tidy and overall it's a lotta fun to listen to.
  8. Good Time: C. I never found myself liking this song much, found it pretty skippable, specially compared to how beautiful other CC songs are.
  9. 1991: B+. The main synth riffs are sick - intense and danceable at the same time. That spacey resonator vocal sample at the end sounds ethereal and weird and just really works somehow.
  10. Vanished: B. I really like the post chorus in this with the doubled vox. The sine wavey synth hook is pretty too and a really unique sounding melody. But it's a little too monotonous for me.
  11. Knights: A. This is one of the first CC songs where Ethan does that signature transition from a real dirty hard synth riff "verse" to this really melodic, beautiful "chorus". I think this song was Ethan beginning to get into the territory where he realized what he wanted to do with the band's sound.
  12. Love and Caring: B. Another Alice practice-like song, but I don't really like the harmony of the backing track to me it sounds too plainly happy. Alice saves it from being one of my least favourite CC songs, another fantastic performance on this track - she almost sounds like she's crying.
  13. Through the Hosiery: B+. Not my favourite instrumental to start, the texture kinda sounds half assed to me somehow. BUT the outro with the sine wave plinky plonky shit is fantastic, it sounds so simple but it's really deep in a strange way.
  14. Reckless: A+. Apparently the vocals from Through the Hosiery were supposed to be on here, and when they performed Reckless live she normally sang em. To me this is a really good instrumental, everything just works together, bass, drums and synthlines all molded together, and it's hypnotic and enthralling.
  15. Black Panther: A+. Just a really solid song. Good instrumental, there's a lot of movement and life in this song. The synth melody is silly and happy, but also nostalgic. The lyrics are really dark and it juxtaposes with the energy of the music in this really strange but effective way.
  16. Tell Me What To Swallow: S+. Listening to this song on high volume gives goosebumps like crazy. The verse is so sad, sweet and tender, then when the ooooooh chorus comes in, it's DEVASTATING. Unbelievably stark, emotional and bare, the second chorus and outro makes me imagine like a huge mountain next to a tiny flower blooming in a bleak, grey field with heavy rain. It's one of the only songs which always gives me shivers even after hearing it prolly thousands of times, and one of the most emotionally intense CC songs.
II
  1. Fainting Spells: A-. It's a really intense song and a great opener to an album.
  2. Celestica: S. The instrumental is beautiful and so is Alice's voice. Like Ethan said, you can hear how "cold" this album sounds and this song sounds REALLY cold, almost freezing. The lyrics even make you think of the cold. But it's also got a really nostalgic, wistful feel to it, like a really deep, but gentle sadness.
  3. Doe Deer: A+. Short & sweet. Another super intense song, but it's a more focused intensity than e.g. Love and Caring, I felt.
  4. Baptism: S. I personally think Alice's voice was at it's best here, the HOLD MY HEAD especially sounds fucking amazing. It's like a shriek but really resonant and delivered perfectly. The song has a really strong verse-chorus contrast with that beepy synth then the wide chorus with those dirty saw synths and her beautiful vocals, which makes this song sound fascinating - nothing short of spectacular. It's also super danceable. Love this song.
  5. Year of Silence: S-. The synthy section when the drums cut off blows me away. It's desperate, sad, longing, and regretful, but mixed with hope and just overwhelmingly human sounding. Ethan really mastered these contrasting sections like noone else I ever heard, he fills a verse with a sort of dirty, chugging progression, then cuts into these staggeringly emotional melodic parts, and this song is just such a good example of that.
  6. Empathy: S. The change to that melodic aaah ah ah chorus in this is even better than the transiton in Year of Silence. All of a sudden the track opens up, the most gorgeous chords start playing and Alice's breathy voice soars out and KILLS my soul. (Sorry if this is getting too music theory-ish, but I love the sorta implied suspension in the chorus chords, the way the first chord resolves to the second, but the bass drowns it so it's like a "half" suspension somehow, I literally can't even imagine how the guy came up with this track).
  7. Suffocation: S+++++++. This song is just as "cold" as Celestica, but causes an absolute shit-ton of goosebumps - musically they nail it beyond belief, here. The vocal melody is staggeringly beautiful, specially the "weaaaathers down my selfish needs" part followed by the chorus, and the B in "I'm (wasting my days)" and "You're (waiting for someone)". And holy shit, it's so gorgeous with those soaring synths, and the way the verses strip them away so you're just left with Alice's really sweet, introspective vocals with a little saw and drums, and then they come back in with the chorus and that "I suffocate...", and it's glorious - I mean GLORIOUS. Just overwhelmingly incredible. It's an exceptionally sad song, but it's not just sad: it's deeper than that, it's like a really heartbreaking, bitter, shaking sadness, mixed with overwhelming beauty, hope and longing, without any melodrama or pretense, just a terribly honest, unbelievably beautiful song. Lyrically it's absolutely perfect, too. One of my favorite songs of all time, and one of the only songs where I had to actually stop listening to it because I couldn't take how beautiful it sounded, and had to take a breather to stop and process it - I wasn't ready to be taken to such an icy, dark world with melting melodic beauty dripping from the walls.
  8. Violent Dreams: S-. Continues this run of really good songs on this album. The way the chorus builds after the subdued verse just sounds so free-ing and intense. It sounds like finally breaking free, a release, but not a happy one. Yet another really sad, cold sounding song. Magical.
  9. Vietnam: S-. Killer chorus with bell-like synths glittering over the really intensely sad vocal chops and wobbling bassline.
  10. Birds: B+. Those dirty overdriven rock guitars sound great, almost industrial, but I don't find it as beautiful as some of the previous songs.
  11. Pap Smear: S-. Another really wintery, cold-sounding song, but a bit more dancey - reminds me of DARE by gorillaz, but to me it portrays an image which I can only describe as like a lonely bird floating on a wintry wind, in it's own world. It has a really dark nostalgia behind it too - it makes me feel like when you're like 17, and feel like shit but put on a smile to your friends standing outside a bus stop in a shit town.
  12. Not in Love: S+. The single with Rob Smith would get the same rating. Again, it sounds cold. This song has such a good progression, the pre-chorus is PERFECT after the verse, and the final chorus when the FAT saw synths come in is probably the single most gorgeous part of Crystal Castles' entire discography, aurally. Tension builds all through the verse and prechorus then it releases into this explosion of colour and wonder, and it's majestic. It sounds really desperate, like trying to claw your way back into a relationship which is failing the shit out of you, or running away as far as possible. It really reminds me of like those unsure angsty years of youth when the world seemed really big and new, with an imagined really busy cityscape in the snow.
  13. Intimate: B. Probably my least favorite on the album but still a very good song. The vocal swells sound really mysterious underneath the drums, almost spooky.
  14. I am Made of Chalk: A-. A really creative, surprisingly deep song. That lonely synth line which comes in after the intro is captivating. It's probably one of the loneliest songs Ethan ever wrote.
Bonus Tracks/Singles/Soundcloud
  1. Lovers Who Uncover: S. One of the catchiest and most "mainstream" songs they made, but still also fantastically emotional. It's really nightly and heartbreaking. It's both uplifting and melancholy at the same time. It's one of the most nostalgic songs I ever heard, and that oh NOOOOOOOO with all the beepy synths is magnificent after the chugging New Order-like bass octaves all throughout the verses. To me the only problem with this song is that it gets a bit repetitive and tiring towards the end - I think he didn't really know how to end it.
  2. Leni: S-. The chorus with those swirling beepy synths and vocal chops really made me fall in love with this band the first time I heard it years ago. One of the best ones of Ethan's signature transitions.
  3. Eat Flesh: A+. The main vocal sample is hypotic, ghostly and captivating. This song is really experimental and creative, and one of the darkest and most straight depressing songs they ever released. The arpeggio synth that comes in makes it really intense towards the end.
  4. Make it Hott: B-. Kinda like an outtake from I, it's a pretty fun listen and the uffie sample sounds great, the song just lacks movement and that devastating beauty in e.g. Suffocation for me.
  5. It Fit: B+. To me this is an "almost great". The chorus is another contrasting, melodic "signature" chorus which opens up the song but a little worse than the ones in like Symmetry et al.
  6. Hunting For Witches: A-. It's yet another good song, has a lot of energy, and the droning guitar creates this really insane sounding soundscape with the super dancey beat, and the layered vocal part like halfway in is really melancholy, literally like music from the asylum.
Phew that was a lot haha. Anyway thanks for reading my fangirl vomit 😅

In Season 4, we learn about Charles, Betty and Jughead’s half-brother. In this, we also learn about the Serial Killer genes, which Betty and Charles allegedly both have.
Now, what is the connection between Betty and Charles?
However, that doesn’t seem to be the best question to ask here. Rather than WHAT is the connection, we should be asking WHO is the connection?
And to answer that, it’s Alice Smith, mother of both Betty and Charles, therefore we can assume that they get their serial killer genes from Alice.
But to go farther into the theory, you might ask, WhY wOuLd AlIcE tRy AnD sEt HaL uP tO tAkE tHe FaLl FoR tHe BlAcK hOoD mUrDeRs?
But to that I answer that Alice was NOT the secret True Black Hood in the third of a series of Black Hood takeouts. Rather, I hope to prove that Alice was turning Hal against the town of Riverdale.
There are three main motivations for committing murder, and they are as follows:
  1. Money
  2. Revenge
  3. Love
[EDIT #2: In S1: E8, when Hal kicks Alice out of The Register, she says to him “You already know what I’m capable of.” So, I asked myself, WHaT CoULd ALiCE bE ReFFeRInG To HErE?
And I that that Fred wasn’t her first attempt. I feel that in a Who Shot Mr. Burns way, almost everyone in the town of Riverdale was after Jason, all of course depending on their loathing.]
So, starting from the very first attempt all the way back at S1: E12.
CASE 1: THE ATTEMPTED MURDER OF FRED ANDREWS
Black Hood’s first outing was the robbing of Pop’s Chocolate Shop, which resulted in the shooting of Fred Andrews.
This attempted murder was carried out by Hal Cooper. During Black Hood's letter to the town, Hal simply calls Fred an “adulterer”. But why would a hard-working father care so much about the personal life of his neighbor?
That brings us to Alice Cooper, town journalist and gossiper.
What motive would Alice want to kill Fred Andrews? you may ask. And that brings me to Alice and Hal’s own business, The Register.
A failing newspaper business would make tons of money off of the obituary of one of the town’s most loved citizens.
There is our first motives: MONEY.
[EDIT 1: During the last viewing of the Drive-In, while on a "date" with Hermione Lodge, who else approaches Fred's truck and calls him "adulterer" but Mrs. Alice Cooper.]
Seeing as Hal failed to kill Fred, the business had to be sold to Hiram Lodge.
CASE 2: THE MURDER OF MISS GRUNDY
Black Hood’s first murder, Miss Grundy, was carried out shortly after Grundy was run out of Riverdale due to her affair with Archie.
Hal claimed to have killed her because she had her affair with Archie, but that brings us to Alice. Her daughter, Betty had the most obvious crush on Archie, even since they were kids. Alice said that she read Betty’s diaries, and knew about her and Archie, so Grundy was the most obvious person to kill.
Either that or Hal went rogue. I'd like to think its the former because it sort of puts a dent in my theory. However you could argue that since this was not in fact in Riverdale, and Hal was only interested in killing the scum of Riverdale, it could really go either way. Regardless, here I am.
Motivation: REVENGE
[EDIT 3: In S2: E2, when Archie and Betty go to Alice, she is completely unfazed by the murder of Grundy.]
CASE 3: THE SHOOTING OF MOOSE AND MIDGE
The third Black Hood attack was carried out on Lover's Lane against high-schoolers Moose and Midge. During the time, they were trying the new drug, Jingle Jangle when Hal walked up to their car and simply shot them.
This was on the boarders of Riverdale, so we can safely say that Alice was behind this attack. She was hoping to send a message to the teens of Riverdale; drugs will not be accepted.
However this one can also be chocked up to money, as all of these attacks boost the sales of The Register.
Motivation: MONEY
CASE 4: THE TOWN HALL ATTACK
The first attack that was foiled by out protagonist, Betty Cooper. The attack was supposed to take place at Town Hall, likely a shooting, similar to a later Town Hall attack.
It was likely going to target some other "sinners", and I theorize that the sinner was either Joseph Svenson or Fred Andrews. However, seeing as Betty and Jugular-head evacuated the scene, we may never know so...
Motivation: N/A
CASE 5: THE SUGARMAN MURDER
The second successful murder, Black Hood blackmails Betty into finding out the name of the Sugarman, who was the Jingle Jangle producer. Betty turns Mr. Phillips in, and Black Hood kills him at the Sheriff's office. However, it seems to me that this is a step up from the Moose/Midge attack.
So, this one seems more like revenge against the Blossoms, as the Sugarman was in cahoots with Clifford Blossom before Penelope decided that he should bungee jump from his neck.
So, I'll put this motive as revenge.
Motivation: REVENGE
CASE 6: THE SVENSON FAKEOUT
The first fake Black Hood attack was carried out by Joseph Conway (Svenson), by cutting of his own finger and mailing it to Betty. She is then forced by Svenson at gunpoint to bury Archie in a coffin.
Betty, Archie and Sheriff Keller get the drop on Svenson, with Archie shooting Svenson with his own gun.
To analyze this fight, it seems to me that Hal was worried that either Betty or Keller would catch onto his trail, so he used the Svenson at his disposal to lead the trail away from himself.
This is less of a Black Hood attack rather than an attempt for Hal to put some room between the RPD and himself. I'm not going to count this as an attack.
CASE 7: THE NEAR-DEATH OF CHERYL AND THE DEATH OF MIDGE
During probably the worst running episodes of the entire series, Kevin's musicals take a dark turn when Cheryl is almost killed before the show even begins and Midge is killed at the actual show.
This killing serves a message. The Black Hood is back.
Motive: REVENGE against the town of Riverdale.
CASE 8: THE "KILLING" OF CHIC
In what was a sort of ambiguous ending, Betty hands Chic over to the Black Hood, and she assumes that he was killed. (Save for the S4 Finale)
This "murder" was meant to save Betty and Alice from the murderer living in the house. (Strange considering the fact that Hal lives there but I digress). This was to show his love for Alice and Betty.
Motive: LOVE
CASE 9: THE MAYORAL POTSHOTS
In an event rigged by Hiram Lodge, he hired Tall Boy to basically pretend to be the Black Hood. He takes a shot at Fred Andrews, to try and prove his likeness to the real Hood. He also """""""attempts""""""" to kill Hermione Lodge.
Since this was not Hal, or Alice, I can't do anything for this.
CASE 10: THE ATTEMPTED MURDER OF CHERYL BLOSSOM
After paying a visit to Thistlehouse, Hal tries to kill Cheryl Blossom with an axe. This is around the time Hal begins to have an affair with Penelope Blossom so there are two theories.
THEORY A: Alice hates the Blossoms, so she manipulates Hal into killing Cheryl.
THEORY B: Penelope hates her LGBT daughter, so guess who's on the chopping block? Madam Cheryl Blossom.
Once again, I kinda have to go with Theory A, because it's what I do.
MOTIVE: REVENGE
CASE 11: THE MURDER OF DR MASTERS
As seen as kind of a throwaway thing, Hal kills Dr. Masters to bring Betty back to her house. There he details his every move, and Betty sends the confession to Keller, where she gets him arrested.
This could be the last part of Alice's plan; get Hal arrested and keep the kids to herself. There is no motive for Hal, but for Alice...
MOTIVE: REVENGE
CASE 12: THE RIVERDALE HIGH MASSICRE
After faking his death, Hal tries to kill Betty, but kills many, many, MANY extras. His only motive is to get revenge on Betty and Alice. Now Alice has lost control of Hal.
PENELOPE'S MOTIVE: REVENGE
CASE 13: THE THORNHILL HUNT
This was the last time Hal is in the series, and Penelope uses the opportunity to tie up all loose ends, including Hal.
PENELOPE MOTIVE: REVENGE
In this theory I hope that I proved that Alice is really the evil mastermind behind the Black Hood attacks. Tell me what you think.
